![]() Over the river, and through the wood, To Grandfather's house we go; the horse knows the way to carry the sleigh through the white and drifted snow. Over the river, and through the wood, to Grandfather's house away! We would not stop for doll or top, for 'tis Thanksgiving Day. ![]() ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sac2CVHs5Do ) Happy Thanksgivukah to all who celebrate the two holidays that share today! EDIT: .... err.... tomorrow. Well, OK, technically tonight is Erev Thanksgiving, and the official start of Chanukah. Good morning, everyone! Late start this morning... tough getting out of bed today. Too busy yesterday and last night. Today promises to be more of the same. I'm going try using the HDR photography techniques inside some of the ancient temples in my neighborhood and see how that works out. Might just be an interesting blending of 21st Century technology and 15th Century culture. On the other hand, it may just turn out really, really bad. Sort of like 'Dorothy meets Seven of Nine.' But I won't know until I try! So right now I'm fortifying myself with a new (for me) tea! It's "PG Tips," touting itself as "England's No.1 Tea," and I have to say that despite it being a commercially bagged tea, I'm enjoying it. I was served it at a restaurant last month and inquired as to the brand, being surprised to discover it was a bagged tea. I went looking for a loose leaf package but none was available here so I bought the tea bag box. Glad I did! It is a nice cup of tea. I wouldn't rate it on the same shelf as Fortnum&Mason or East India Company loose teas, but it is certainly the very best commercially bagged tea I've had. I think there will even be enough flavor to withstand a second steeping, although the price it sells for here doesn't make that a necessity. From the sounds of things during the failure stage, this is a bad bearing on the pump. In the old days, I'd have pulled the bearings myself and replaced them. But I no longer have the tools. OTOH, the local Marine Diesel shop says they can handle it. It's not really all that big a deal, assuming it's just the motor and not the pump rotor. If it's the rotor, I'll need to order up a new one and that would take more than a little while, since it would have to come from Pennsylvania.
A glass of cheap and almost toxic white wine to go with the turkey we had tonight. |

Afternoon delight of East India Company's "Royal Breakfast" tea!
[QUOTE=dreams;2698140..... I tried to repair it, but just gave up and finally took it into a small motor repair shop. [/QUOTE] I had a girlfriend a long time ago who signed up for an Adult Ed evening class in Small Motor Repair. She figure that being she drove a Subaru with a very small motor, she'd be able to fix it herself... Did I mention that she was a blond? Stitchawl |

![]() My dad hated to buy anything new if the old could be repaired, so we all were very familiar with taking things apart to see how they worked *most times we even got them back together with all their parts in the right place and it worked again* ![]() |

Well, in my previous life as a journeyman industrial electrician, fixing motors was a normal part of the job. Especially silly things like this, just a bad bearing. Whip off the casing, knock out the pin or key, and pull the bearing with a pulley puller. Go to Stores, pick up a pair of new bearings (if I didn't have spares that particular size in my roll-away), slide them on, shove in a new pin or key, and put the housing back on. Test run the motor, and back into the machine. Or more likely, back on the shelf since we usually just swapped them out to keep the line running. (And the best part -- it wasn't even my job to pull the motor -- I just had to disconnect it from power. Pulling it was the millwright's job unless it was 1HP or less.)
IAC, it's out now and I'll take it down to the diesel shop on Friday. Meanwhile, however, a big glass of fresh squeezed orange juice, and a mug of Lapsang Souchong. |

Take two...

We would not stop for doll or top, for 'tis Thanksgiving Day. ![]() ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sac2CVHs5Do ) Happy Thanksgivukah to all who celebrate the two holidays that share today! (I think I got it right this time...) Good morning, everyone! Unbranded keemun tea today. Still love this stuff! Up early to shoot the sun, then process some photos from yesterday's shooting. Then practice some music, do some fencing drills, then walk into the Old City for lunch. Gotta remember to give thanks today too. That's what it's all about, right? I'll go back to this place this afternoon to do that. It's what I shot yesterday... ![]() I can see about 11 different ancient temples from my window, but this one is tucked away inside the Old City, protected by the moat and walls. Quiet place... That thing that really blows me away is that it was dark as a tomb inside this temple except for a bit of light coming in from behind the Buddha... There is something to be said for High Dynamic Range photography... No flash used. This was nine exposures bracketing in .7 steps above and below the metered exposure blended together... It works!

Impressive, Stichawl. Both from a technical standpoint (your picture) and from the standpoint of just how much money religion is willing to spend on itself.
Happy holidays for those whose holidays are either today, or starting today. I'll celebrate with a mug of Peet's English Breakfast Blend while I try to get serious about this book I'm supposed to be writing. I spent yesterday re-writing Word macros and templates. A SURE sign I'm in the last stages of avoidance. |
