That error does seem to indicate a problem with the uploaded text having a bad character.

I pulled the latest from hg, and build that version. It works on that story now.

Whoops. Well, this is why we do test versions.

Attached should fix that problem. It also contains Feynor's latest changes for the heuristic HTML processing.

That actually comes from calibre itself when a plugin does use translations, but doesn't have translations for that particular language.
