Thanks for all the Birthday wishes! Just got my prezzie from my mommy which is a huge chunk of change for the laptop I am looking to get. I think I found the one I want now I am waiting on hubby's chunk of change before I order it.

They both have 6gb ram, 750gb hard drive, and number pads....either one is better than what I am using (desk top) lol

The Dell had had 4 USBs ports and a Optical drive it was also touch screen. The Samsung has better processor and battery but it's not touch screen and no optical drive and only 3 USB ports.

I'm on a desktop too well most of the time. I have an old Q6600 Quad Core Gateway Lemon. I bought in 2007. My other is Toshiba a netbook 1.6ghz single core hunk of junk. The fan runs constantly on it and the 9 cell battery was a very bad idea.

My desk top is 4 gb ram and 500gb, so it's adequate. I should see if I can upgrade the ram. Sometimes it struggles with all the stuff I have going on most of the time (like right now, while I wait for calibre to switch libraries and update my Nook via Calibre Companion).

It's not really ram but processor that counts in muti tasking you want at least a i5 which is a successor to the Quad Core I have. I can like have 50 tabs open on Firefox and chrome 50 folders open and run Calibre and all the other backgrounds programs like email, Dropbox and well you get the idea. I have 6GB of ram on here.

How is the battery life on your Nexus 7? Are you happy with it (the battery life)? For reading.

Looks good spec wise. I got the non-refurb version of this one last year. It was my first Samsung, but I'm relatively satisfied with it. One thing to check on the one you're looking at is the touch pad. I know you said you don't like large one's and the one on mine is huge, I suppose for all the multi-touch stuff, and I wish it was smaller. Don't know if the model you're looking at is the same way.

The screens smaller on the one I am planning to get so the touch page wont be so bad. It seems to be percentage thing with the how big the screen is. The smaller the screen the smaller the space of the touchpad.

How is the temps on yours? One thing is I don't want something that constantly overheats.

Very happy I compare it to the Kindle Fire First Generation. I think HD Widgets is a battery hog though. I may remove the app.

With the i7 I did worry a bit about heat, but it's not bad really. The fan comes on occasionally, but for the most part it's pretty silent and while it gets warm I've never had it get really hot like some other laptops. No problem with it sitting on my lap, although that's not normally how I use it. I don't do any heavy gaming on it, but do occasionally run World of Warcraft on it, so probably haven't taxed it to the limit. I see my link was wrong too. Mine's a 15.6" version of the one I ended up linking oops. The touch pad is 4.25" x 3.125"

I like that. I will need to get a new one next year. I bought an Acer something last year and I swear I can go thru a laptop every 2 years or less. But I work on it 16-18 hours a day. One thing I will not buy is an HP. It will either be another Acer or a Dell
