Goodreads integration UK - I want my money back

According to Amazon the new Goodreads integration is available in the US, Canada and Australia only.

The ONLY reason I got rid of my PW1 for a PW2 was the promise of Goodreads integration.

I'm in the UK, and before I go complaining I'd like to know if anyone knows that Amazon stated it wouldn't be available in the UK?

AFAIK it was never advertised on Amazon UK as getting Goodreads integration.

That's not to say it won't though. Amazon often does a limited release of certain features (often US only) before making them available elsewhere after working out any bugs or support issues that pop up. From what I've been reading about the integration it leaves a lot to be desired at this point.

If there was no promise of it on Amazon UK (and I don't see one) I suspect you're out of luck, as far as any legal right to a refund is concerned.

There's a high chance the integration is coming to PW1 in the coming months also, so getting rid of a PW1 in favor of a PW2 just for that feature should not be necessary.

It's certainly not in the description now on Amazon UK. But I'm curious...did mention of Goodreads appear on that site previously? If so, I could see you having at least some reason to call Amazon about a potential return/refund.

Having said that, the implementation is sketchy at best, and I've found it more useful to continue using the GR iOS app to enter my books & progress. The Kindle version does next to nothing: can't report progress, reviews/ratings/completions post to GR, but GR doesn't then post to FB the way it can from the web or iOS app, you can't access custom shelves...the list goes on. If you're a heavy GR user, this implementation of it barely scratches the surface of what you likely use. You aren't missing anything. By the time they get around to rolling it out to other countries (which I'm reasonably certain they will), they'll hopefully have built it out to make it useful. Right now, it's barely more than a gimmick.

I wouldn't worry about missing Goodreads on the PW 2013. Its just one page in contrast to the Goodreads on the HDX 2013 with TWELVE pages.

There is simply not enough memory on the PW 2013 to really get anything big.

By the way, Amazon always offers a no questions asked 30 day guarantee. You can always use that deal to get your money back less one way shipping unless you found a defect which will cancel the shipping charge.

You are correct, there has never been any mention of it on the UK site.

Why would you spend all that money just to have goodreads on your kindle? It doesn't seem very rational to me. Just rate and review from your PC.

That is true, the integration of GoodReads into the PW2 FW is very lackluster IMO. I too have opted to use GR on my Nexus 7.2, iDevices, or Mac. Much better experiences on those devices rather than the PW2.

I wonder why UK/DE local sites don't support Goodreads, hopefully it is just a temporary thing - perhaps requiring back-end support not yet installed in those countries. It certainly seems like it would work on my PW2, and I live in the EU - but mine is a Amazon.com international model - the Goodreads integration is on the device. I haven't created an account, so who knows if some blockade would surface. I probably won't bother at this time, though.

All (except Japanese) PWs are the same - no such thing as a US or EU model. The only difference in US PWs is the option of buying with Special Offers, which is not offered elsewhere. The difference in capabilities is purely down to the account that it's registered to Amazon with.

No it did not. Back on October I looked carefully before ordering my PW2 on the UK site, the French site, the German one and the Spanish one (I wanted to make sure that the Flashcards function was going to be available in Europe). None mentioned a Goodreads integration. As a matter of fact, in one of the first video of the device that appeared on the web, done by endgadget or one of those tech site (can't remember which one) at the IFA in Berlin, the reviewer, who was american, stipulated that although Goodreads integration would be one of the feature for the US, the amazon representative that handled him over the PW2 for the video insisted on him making sure he was not going to mention anything about Goodreads availability outside of the US, as it definitely was not going to be the case, at least for a while.

I wanted the other functions, such as quick navigation in the book and the Flashcards so for me it is not a big deal. I did register my PW2 back to my US account to see how the Goodreads integration looks like, but as I am not convinced with it (it only works for amazon books, not for side-loaded ones), I have now reversed to my German account.
