Yeah, I always know their books will end at 85% or so.

What I hate most about Samhain is their insistence on setting the books main font at 80% size meaning I always have to adjust things to read their books and readjust after reading one.

Calibre can fix that. If it's epub or AZW3 it's an easy fix. Just open the style sheet and find font size and do a search and replace all for that certain file size.

I have to do this on alot of books. Harlequin is the only ones who consistent and easy to convert everyone else wants to be creative with the look of the book. They just don't get people read these on a eReader or Tablet not the computer.

I know how to do it, but I get tired of "fixing" things all the time. It feels like I spend too much time doing that instead of reading.

I've always wanted to learn how to modify my epubs directly in Calibre (specifically to remove built-in fonts). How exactly do I "open the stylesheet"? Do I have to install a plug-in? And does it create a copy of the epub or edit the original?

And happy birthday!

I know, I soooo know. It's all I've been doing since I got the new tablet! The quick way to fix it is to convert to old mobi and read it that way. It removes most of the problems if you check the right boxes in Look N Feel.

It edits the original. You just click tweak book button then choose your format the contents of the book will pop up in a folder you want the file that is style sheet with the extension .css You can use any plain text editor to edit the style sheet. I use Notepad2 which is a great free notepad replacement program.

Removing fonts though is really easy you can use the modify epub plugin to delete the fonts folder inside the book then just click the fonts box on Calibre's Look in Feel conversion window. This will remove the Font-Family style from the style sheet. That's all there is too it!

I used to use the explode/notepad method but then I installed Sigil and use the "Open With" plugin to open the book right out of Calibre. It's a little easier to view the files in the ebook editor. The .css file is usually in the Styles folder.

I still use the explode ePub/notepad method. I had Sigil, but must have been doing something wrong as I couldn't get the books to look right when I was done.

There was a learning curve with the explode ePub/notepad method, too, but I can get most all of the stuff I want done that way.

I never mess with the font size for Samhain books. I usually explode the ePub, take out the back matter, etc. and rebuild. Then do an ePub to ePub conversion and the font is regular sized. Maybe it's something I have set in Calibre I don't know about, but I never have to manually change the font size in css.

Awesome thanks, I will try this. The reason I don't want to remove fonts with conversion anymore is that I'm reaching my dropbox limit and I don't want the duplicate files hanging around. If Dropbox would only offer a cheaper solution than $9.99/month...

Wow, I can't believe how much some of you are doing to your book files! I convert to ePub and load as desired. That's it! lol How time consuming is all this personalising? I don't have font issues and and don't think I could be bothered to remove extra pages, but some books have just the worst margins (though again, how would I know that before opening on my reader? At which point I want to READ the darn thing and probably wouldn't go fiddle with the file on the computer).

I'm still working on adding reading tiers, tags and missing descriptions to all my books! I think I'm on H authors... and I only have a couple thousands books to work through.

Have you heard of Copy.com? Check my sig.

I think we all have preference on how our books must look. I prefer the lazy method covert to old mobi and I am done. However the Kindle app has only one font so I have to embed my fonts. For epub I need to also fix font sizes and remove line-height from the style sheets. Sigil is okay but it does nothing special when it comes to Styles that I can't do quickly in Notepad 2.
