Lighter and higher ppi is good. What the pw2 should have had, really.

I don't know if I want a glass screen flush with the bevel. The light diffusion layer needs to be above the eink screen. In order to make the top layer flush with the bevel, will they have to increase the gap and recess the eink screen farther away. That will reduce the native contrast of the eink screen, which is already worse than the basic kindle black. (by "native" contrast I mean contrast without the light being on). The kobo aura has a flush screen, and the background is darker than the pw. Does not necessarily mean there's a causal link, of course, but it is not a good indication.

I think the rumor is obviously confused and they are speculating about a Fire prototype rather than an eInk reader. This thing didn't materialize this year, so now they are saying oops we meant next year. Bottom line, the rumor mongers haven't got a clue...

The present resolution is good enough for me. I don't need a lighted screen much less a gimicky one that adjusts itself. Instead of spending money developing and manufacturing gimicks why don't they add what I really need: more memory and much better software for managing my library?

That's the clincher, for me, too. The higher resolution alone is not enough to make me buy one.

Unless it has a 5" screen like the Kobo Mini. I would be willing to put up with the Kindle limitations, for that.

Then you want the HDX 2013. My model has 32 Gb of memory of which I am now using 4.43 Gb and still have 21.25 Gb available. The rest is used by the system.

These eBook library managers have lots of defects but at least they are under development and will get better as time goes on.

Amazon has a primitive Collection app for the PW 2013 and HDX 2013 but it is really only appropriate for SMALL Collections of less than 100 eBooks. I have only 35 eBooks and it works fine for me. Those other two cited above are far more appropriate for large eBook Collections.

That is why the PW 2014 should really be a merger of technology from the HDX 2013 and the PW 2013 to allow the running of Android apps like those two library managers. Maybe that merger of technologies will not happen until November, 2014.

The weight and thickness, as well as the lack of buttons, is the biggest dissatisfaction I have w/ Kindle PW 2013. Actually, I more hope that the Kindle PW line continues and is not replaced by this possible higher end line, and that they improve the portability of the PW for 2014.

A PW with K4 paging buttons (at a reasonable price) would be a near auto-buy for me, regardless of everything else.

They're really missing a trick. We should be able to customise when ordering - so things like page turn buttons, internal memory size, light etc in any combination. Then everybody can do pick 'n mix and end up with what is best for them. If only...

If you buy eBooks from Apple for your iPad, how does it perform as a reader? What are its features?

Could you give us a comparison between an iPad as an eReader and one of the new Kindles as an eReader?
