I follow Julia Quinn, and she posted this on FB. It so goes with our disscussion part of this thread.

So do you agree?? and have you read any?

Well I own 7 of the 10 so that is encouraging.

So far I have only read the Robyn Carr, it was good but I wouldn't call it top ten.
The Gracie and MacLean are nearing the top of by TBR pile so I might finish them both before the end of 2013. Hopefully the rest will be read by the end of 2014.

I have only read The Arrangement by Mary Balogh. I got a copy while at RWA and then came home and purchased the ebook. I remember reading the book. but that was several months ago. Cannot tell you anything about it or what I would rate it. lol I am old and have the gray hairs to prove it. Can't expect an old person to remember that far back

Georgette Heyer's Faro's Daughter is $3.99 for Kindle [US + Canada, not UK] and Nook (and possibly at other sites; not Kobo so far, though). Normal price is $8.69, so not the biggest discount, but I'm picking it up anyway.

I thought The Love Letters by Vanessa Darling was pretty good. It's a unqiue take on the romance genre. You are the heroine, and receive romantic letters in the mail six days a week from your Prince Charming, who (for reasons unknown) is traveling along the Oregon and California coasts.

Also, a girl at work RAVES about Amanda Quick, though I haven't read any of her stuff and can't speak from personal experience.

There really hasn't been too many mainstream books out this year that have the wow factor. I can't tell how many books I checked out at the library and didn't get past the first chapter. Most publisher's picked up indie authors books this year so we did have some unique book that do have a wow factor to them.

Here are my top 13 reads for the year which may change in the next month if I read something amazing!

These are not by ratings but by most memorable. Books that would go on my keeper shelf. I sometimes rate a book 5 stars but forget why, those books are not keepers just really good at the time.

These are in order of most favorite:
  1. Guarding Jess (McCormack Security Agency #2) by Shannon Curtis:
Amazing! Better than the first and loved every minute of it.
  2. The Cowboy Takes a Bride (Jubilee, Texas Series #1) by Lori Wilde:
Heartfelt and ran my emotions through the ringer. A very emotional book!
  3. The Cowboy and the Princess (Jubilee, Texas Series #2) by Lori Wilde:
A very charming witty sequel with two characters you can't help fall in love with.
  4. If I Were You (Inside Out #1) by Lisa Renee Jones: Intense and erotic and full of suspense and perfect Characterization. If only all books could be this good!
  5. Caleb (Shadow Wranglers #1) by Sarah McCarty: Hot and Spicy and full of Vampires who just make you drool. The world building is great and I really enjoyed the hero and his old fashion alpha ways.
  6. Fortune's Mistress (Fortune Trilogy #1) by Judith E. French: Fast paced and you can't put it down. It's like India Jones meets Romancing the Stone set in a historical setting.
  7. Reckless (Thoughtless #3) by S.C. Stephens: The perfect happy fairy tale ending to a a very unique couple. It does take them awhile to get there though the angst is in this book.
  8. The Charade by Laura Lee Guhrke: A fun Pre American Revolution historical about a pickpocket and a spy. It made me fill like I was right there watching history play out.
  9. Slave to Sensation (Psy-Changeling #1) by Nalini Singh: The world building and SciFi element in the book is breathtaking if not a little overwhelming.
  10. Dark of the Moon by Karen Robards: Wow love the plucky heroine in this and the woman she becomes. This is a May-December romance.
  11. Crow's Row (Crow's Row #1) by Julie Hockley: Anti-hero who you just can't help but like even if his profession is really bad. I am waiting for the sequel and yes there is a huge cliffhanger!
  12. The Windflower by Laura London: Cat! There is no other romance character like Cat who isn't even a main character but he steals the show over and over. Sadly no book was ever written about him.
  13. Annie and the Outlaw by Sharon Sala: The author knows how to give me goosebumps. This is a paranormal and a Harlequin done right.

For those of you who were looking for medieval romance, I just saw that this is free:

White Lion's Lady by Lara Adrian. This was originally published under her pen name, Tina St. John. I'm not big on medievals but I like her Midnight Breeds PNR series.

The Windflower is being released in digital format next spring! I haven't read it since I was an impressionable teenager, (a looong time ago) and I'm not sure how well it will hold up, but I'm buying it anyway. I so wish Sharon and Tom Curtis had kept on writing. I wonder whatever happened to them?

That's Awesome! I didn't find it mindblowing like I was told it was but Cat made it worth the read. The hero was too in the background for my taste. I wanted the heroine to end up with Cat. Ah well....

Blossom, i loved cat - i still do. i kept wishing a book or two with him as the star would pop up, but he was so perfect in windflower that it might be impossible to nail his personality a second time.

a few from my keeper shelf that i revisit regularly:

the windflower - the romance and the main characters are fine, but cat is wonderful.

california generation - maybe partly 'cause i'm a native californian who grew up in the late 60s and 70s. original ending is my favorite, but there are 3. the characters are so real to me and to some friends i have who also read it feel like the characters are old friends we knew in school.

edith layton's love trilogy - love in disguise, surrender to love and the game of love. titles are a bit lurid to me, but the writing is anything but. it's elegant and subtle, amazing characters (my favorite is warwick), character development and lots of really wonderful internal dialog.

frederica and the black both from georgette heyer. i love many of ms. heyer's novels, but these two are my favorites. the black moth is all the more amazing because she wrote it as a teenager and it's sooo good!
