Three Parts Dead by Max Gladstone is currently on Amazon for $2.99. (Tor/Macmillan)

[Shortened URL deleted - MODERATOR]

Edit (corrected URL) Amazon link

Quote:
A god has died, and it’s up to Tara, first-year associate in the international necromantic firm of Kelethres, Albrecht, and Ao, to bring Him back to life before His city falls apart.

Her client is Kos, recently deceased fire god of the city of Alt Coulumb. Without Him, the metropolis’s steam generators will shut down, its trains will cease running, and its four million citizens will riot.

Tara’s job: resurrect Kos before chaos sets in. Her only help: Abelard, a chain-smoking priest of the dead god, who’s having an understandable crisis of faith.

When Tara and Abelard discover that Kos was murdered, they have to make a case in Alt Coulumb’s courts—and their quest for the truth endangers their partnership, their lives, and Alt Coulumb’s slim hope of survival.

Set in a phenomenally built world in which justice is a collective force bestowed on a few, craftsmen fly on lightning bolts, and gargoyles can rule cities, Three Parts Dead introduces readers to an ethical landscape in which the line between right and wrong blurs.

I actually found this one because the author did a guest post on Chuck Wendig's blog for his newest release, Two Serpents Rising, which is the second in the series. I ended up reading the pair in two days. I suggest sampling first; I loved both (the second one a bit more), but not sure how widely they'll appeal. Amazing worldbuilding and well formed characters, plus some intricate plotting.

The Palace Job by Patrick Weekes, $1.99 on Amazon's Daily Deals.

Amazon.com

Quote:
Loch is seeking revenge.
It would help if she wasn’t in jail.

The plan: to steal a priceless elven manuscript that once belonged to her family, but now is in the hands of the most powerful man in the Republic. To do so Loch—former soldier, former prisoner, current fugitive—must assemble a crack team of magical misfits that includes a cynical illusionist, a shapeshifting unicorn, a repentant death priestess, a talking magical warhammer, and a lad with seemingly no skills to help her break into the floating fortress of Heaven’s Spire and the vault that holds her family’s treasure—all while eluding the unrelenting pursuit of Justicar Pyvic, whose only mission is to see the law upheld.

What could possibly go wrong?

The Palace Job is a funny, action-packed, high-fantasy heist caper in the tradition of Scott Lynch’s Gentleman Bastards series, from debut author Patrick Weekes.

Part of today's Amazon UK Kindle Daily Deal is the "Muirwood" fantasy trilogy ("The Wretched of Muirwood", "The Blight of Muirwood", "The Scourge of Muirwood") by Jeff Wheeler. Not an author I've encountered before, but they have excellent reviews, and at 99p a book it's worth taking a chance on.

I really enjoyed the first one--it was kind of urban fantasy, but a lot different from others I've read. Just waiting on the second to come down a little bit in price (I'd get it now because it's still pretty cheap, but I have so many unread books I figure I may as well wait).

If you haven't already leapt at this, I managed to pick these all up for free a while ago. In fact, I just noticed that I somehow managed to pick them up twice for free. I have two copies of each in my Calibre ()

One lot I picked up in April 2012 and the other in May 2013.

Of course, I can't guarantee that they will ever be free again and 99p each isn't exactly bank busting.

The Stone Gods by Jeanette Winterson is £0.99 at Nook UK.

The publisher's description is not very informative, but here is a bit about the book on the author's website.

Edit: Argh! In the time it took me to post this the price has gone back up. Sorry.

Be careful of this edition, since it's really unclear which one it is. The cover does not match the NightShade Books Edition that I own.

Too, the cover says 'eStar' books, but the set that one should REALLY get (as I mentioned) is the NightShade Books Edition of SIX (6) volumes. The Nightshade is the definitive set to own and is a beautiful addition to any lover's collection of weird tales.

The NightShade set will cost you more, but is certainly worth it, in my opinion.

Again - it's really unclear which edition this is: Is it the eStar edition or is it the NightShade edition. (This may be a screw-up on Amazon's database listing.)

You are right. It is the eStar edition and it only seems to include one short story. My bad for not checking it our before posting. Sorry.

It wasn't your problem, and I wasn't writing the above as a moderator.

I think it's really unclear exactly what it is. One reviewer mentions one story, but another reviewer mentions more than one. Also, the page count is showing that the book is in the hundreds. (????)

So, I don't know what is going on.

You can still get the Night Shade Books Clark Ashton Smith Bundle at BaeneBooks for $25.00, that is a good discount from buying them individuality.
