At first I thought it might have been a kepub-only book, so I installed the Kobo desktop, but it doesn't see the book at all. The book is from No Starch Press, a computer book publisher that's DRM-free (their ebooks are available through O'Reilly).

Anyone else have this happen?

I had this happen with a book I bought using the Firefox browser - I could only find it in My Library using IE9, even though I didn't use IE9 to buy it.

Edit

Also did you check in My Library - Purchased?

I've had a book appear there but not in the I'm Reading tab.

I have a few which don't seem to have any way to download them. When that happens, I source them elsewhere so I can add to my Calibre library. I've paid for them!

Help! How do I get the old checkout screen?

I've tried IE9 and also changing my region to Norfolk Island (even creating a Norfolk Island account).

Murg another way of accessing Norfolk Island is to go in via your Aus account, go through to the checkout screen and using 'Edit' change your country to Norfolk Island.

Then closing that program and start Kobobooks using IE9.

Btw make sure that you aren't logged into any other Kobo account at the same time.

I tried to buy that book two weeks ago. There wasn't an Adobe download link then either. So much for customer service, apparently Kobo didn't report it to Midnight Ink.

I notified Kobo customer service and they refunded my money.

I would love to use the 80% coupon to buy this book but I cant find it on Kobo. I can find it on Amazon and Barnes & Noble but not Kobo.
Usually when a book is not available to my region, it doesnt show up in searches, but usually using a VPN can find it but not this time.
I'm having the same problem with THE GOLDFINCH by Donna Tartt. I'm in Hong Kong and it doesn't show up in any search. E-mailed Kobo support and they sent me links direct to the book listing, but when I try those I get the message: "Not available in your country." This has never happened to me before. Has nothing to do with my country settings in Kobo, it's all based on my IP address.

I've been searching for instructions on how to use a VPN to obtain this book, but everything I've seen scares me off, either costing a lot of money, or finding warnings that the VPNs rated as "super secure" are very often identity-theft hellholes.

Any suggestions?

This is what link comes up from my store when I see it. I wonder why it's not available for you? It could be one of those which they choose not to sell in your country, in that they're not allowed to.

Is it available to you from other ebook sellers?

Nope, your link comes up with message: "This content is not available internationally." Yet it is available to me from Amazon and Sony...though, sadly, without discount coupons.

Here in Hong Kong I've had the best of all worlds: for a huge number of titles I'll find the US and the UK versions both available, and sometimes even an Australian or Canadian edition, and I can then choose the lowest-priced one. This is the first time that any or all versions of a book are not available to me. And, by the way, I still get the old UI for Kobo, so that isn't the issue.

You could always get someone else to purchase it for you, and send you the epub? It comes up as $19.99 AUD for me, and appears to not accept discount coupons.

I use either TunnelBear or Spotflux. Both are extremely easy to use, just install and run, no configuration needed at all, except for TunnelBear where you have to flick the switch to turn it on and choose which country you want to appear as being from. Very very simple.

I use them both because neither are perfect. Spotflux has popup ads that annoy me, and TunnelBear only allows you 1gb of data a month. So I switch between the 2.

http://www.hotspotshield.com/ is prone to dropping out, and the free version has ads which pop up in a new browser window (quite intrusive). It sometimes slows the connection down considerably. However, if what you want is something you use on odd occasions, not for a prolonged browsing session, it might enable you to buy the odd book here and there, as if in USA.

http://www.expatshield.com/ is the same, but with a UK address.

You can't have them both installed at the same time; if you want both without uninstalling and reinstalling you need to buy the full version of hotspot shield, which gives you a choice of country, including Australia, UK, USA. Frankly, it drops too often to be worth paying for

I've had one or other installed for the past few years, and haven't had any security issues with them.

Hm. I tried Tunnelbear, and it works, but that wasn't enough. I also had to set up a whole new Kobo account with a USA address. Then, finally, the book showed up. BUT...when I went to purchase it, the screen that says "Have a promo code?" flashed on for a millisecond and disappeared. So I assume the promo code is not applicable.

I'm just going to order the hardcover sent to me from Book Depository. Slightly higher cost than the full-price e-book, and I have a book I can fondle.

Thanks for the help, all!
