azw3 & azw not recognized

Nobody else is posting about this problem, so I suspect I have a setting not right. I download books from Amazon and the plugin removes the DRM. However, I cannot open the book in Calibre. It says that the format is not recognized. If I use the ebook converter (http://ebook.online-convert.com), it converts to mobi just fine and opens fine in Calibre. This problem started when the azw3 format began, but now even some azw formats are doing this.

I have the latest version of Calibre installed and still have the problem. Am I missing a plugin? Is there a setting wrong?

Are you sure you have the latest version of calibre? Look at the bottom of the main calibre window to check the version. And go to preferences->plugins and ensure you have not disabled the conversion input plugins for azw3/mobi.

I redownloaded the latest version. While it won't convert automatically, I can request the conversion and it works smoothly. So, I'm a happy customer. Thank you!! I agree that it may have been a lack of the plug in because I couldn't find it and it's obviously there in the latest download. Perhaps a blip in the download caused it to fail. Thanks again!

Another possible alternative - delete from Calibre and re-import.
I find that usually does the trick, although with the latest Calibre update, haven't had any problems.
