Wow, at least someone with a pink Aura! Maybe you can help me find out if the pink one has the same pattern as the black on its back. From the pictures, it seems slick like an Aura HD.

What kind of pattern are you talking about? I got a pink-back Aura for my wife a few days ago and the back texture is plastic smooth. I actually consider it a step back compared to the Glo (which I have). I love the rubbery feel of the Glow's back.

I took it back to the store and I did get a refund but the sales assistant was very rude about it, having a go at me for using it, saying that as I had used it I shouldn't really be entitled to a refund! So yes I did get a refund but it wasn't a pleasant experience.
Eeek! That sounds like a rotten experience shanghaichica. Exactly the kind of thing I'd be worried about.

Thats a good shout by gargoyle67 about using a credit card to pay so you are covered that way, but that is only if it is very obviously faulty - although yours very clearly was! My concern was that they wouldn't accept something like the light band across the top or slight scratches as a fault and it'd be a fight to get a refund. If it has any kind of blemishes on the screen, I don't want it, I'll stick to my old ereader in that case and wait until they get it right. Even with Amazon's far better customer service reputation, I'm still wary of clicking the buy button.... its so frustrating that you can't buy a lighted ereader with full confidence that you won't need to try and exchange it.

samhy's original post explaining it is earlier in the thread here, but it's basically the difference you can see in the pictures of the back of the black and pink Aura's. The black clearly has a pattern, while the pink looks smooth - so you can confirm it is smooth?

Yep, the pink one definitely has a smooth back.

Thanks Tazor and l_macd. On the black version there is a pattern, maybe something like a net, that can definitely can be felt. It is very nice to the fingers and I believe it should give a better grip.
I won't buy an Aura just now (bought an ukulele yesterday on a whim), but if/when I do it will be a black one for sure. The pink seems cute though

Update to my initial battery woes:

I'm now on my 3rd charge cycle. Battery dropped from 100% to 75% in under 8.5 hours (wi-fi off, light at 16% around a third of the time). Turned wi-fi on and did a sync (took under 60 seconds) and battery dropped from 75% to 69%

I would assume it to be just an inaccurate read that might need calibration, but the device seems to actually die at around 10%

I thought the screen on the Aura looked a little small when I first saw it, but Kobo said 6" and I figured it was just the small bezel making it look small. But now that I've compared the Aura to the Glo and the Touch in the store, I can see that the screen is actually a bit smaller than 6". Is there a true spec somewhere that gives the actual size?

Measuring with a tape measure from diagonal corner to corner the aura screen is exactly 6 inches.

I picked up an Aura today from WHSmith. I inspected it in the store after activation and was confident it was a good one. Only now I've just seen a pin hole. It is tiny and just above the * for the brightness setting so it doesn't affect my reading.

Can anyone tell me if more might appear?. It arrived after a good clean of the screen.

Also should I use a screen protector?

I've now got at least one more, possibly two pin holes in the screen. Does anyone have any idea what's causing them to suddenly appear?

No idea. Perhaps there is a coating underneath that flakes off. I would be returning it I am afraid.
I don't think pinholes would bother me any more than a spec of dirt on a screen or a blemish in a paper book, but the idea would.

I don't think it has anything to do with the pinholes, but I would use a screen protector (especially if you don't use a cover), as with the new Aura the screen is not recessed, and the plastic cover risks scratchin (can't remember who did, but somebody did report scratches on the surface after using the new Aura with no cover)
