I just tried from source and it looks good. Well, apart from the black background for the code I assume that will be customizable at some point. |

Yes, the editor is fully themeable. You can change all the colors, background, syntax highlighting etc. At least, you will be once I have built the preferences for Tweak Book.

This sounds like an awesome feature, and will probably completely replace Sigil for me. Any idea on when it may be finished and seen in the main distribution?

It depends on how much time I can afford to spend on it (and away from mainline calibre work). If I was working full time on it, it would get done in a couple of weeks, so it is likely to take anywhere from a couple of weeks to a couple of months.

It looks awesome What controls did you use as a basis for the editor and previewer? |

Kovid Will a beta (activated by a Tweak as you have done previously) be available for those of us that do not run from source? |

It's nowhere near ready for a beta yet. However, with the next release of calibre you will be able to launch it as a standalone program like this calibre-debug -t file.epub But please, backup your ebook before using it and if you do use it, expect there to be lots of bugs. Integration into the main calibre GUI, to replace the existing Tweak Book feature will come much later. |

Another milestone -- support for search and replace in the editor and across all files. It uses a new regex engine with full support for unicode case folding: https://code.google.com/p/mrab-regex...GeneralDetails Note the different colorscheme for the editor, I have still to write the preferences widget to allow switching schemes, but it shows what is possible. It's getting there... |

No plans as such, but there is no reason that functionality cant be added at some point. calibre includes an HTML 5 parser which it falls back to if the mark up is not well formed XML, so implementing it would be as simple as parsing with that parser and replacing the text with the output from the parser.
