Has anyone else had the problem of being able to buy a book (using a coupon) and having it shown as Purchased in the Library, but not being able to download it? There is no blue download button for the book, even though yesterday I bought books with no problem.
I'm on a Mac, OS 106.8, Safari 5.1.10 (I also tried Firefox, with no luck). Thanks! |

Because I don't want to buy kepub or pdf titles, but only epub, I now make a point (ever since Kobo removed the information from their website) of sending an email to Customer Care periodically asking what the format and DRM status are of books I am interested in buying. I usually enquire about a dozen or so titles at a time. If enough people do this, it may encourage Kobo to reinstate format and DRM information on the website so that customers know what they're buying prior to purchase.

Liber your request to Kobo's Cust Care sounds like a good strategy ... in the meantime while you're waiting for their response - and you feel like you're in 'need' of one book or another - then use IE9 to access kobobooks.com because it's the old look website and still shows format and DRM status.
It's still on the old look checkout though, so once you've got the info you need then you'll need to close that and open kobobooks in Firefox or Chrome. |

For general info .... I've had a Smashwords purchase only available in the IE9 kobobooks 'My library' and not in either Firefox or Chrome's 'My library' or 'Purchases'.
Strange because I'd used Firefox to make the purchase and yet it was only showing in IE9's library. The book was a DRM free edition, I'd used a voucher code and basically it should have been no different to any other book I've purchased using the new look checkout. |

When ever I buy a book from Kobo I always download the acsm my desktop and open in ADE, then add it into Calibre.
Today for the the first time in a very long time I opened my Kobo Desktop app and it synced a whole heap of books. I noticed several had a pink triangle with stars across the corner of the books cover and so I clicked on one to see what it meant. A box popped up prompting me to either buy the book or I could start reading the preview now. What? I have already bought the books. When I go onto the Kobo website and look in my library there, it shows I have purchased the books. Whats up with that? How come the website shows I bought the books, I was able to download the full books through ADE but the desktop shows I only have a preview sample? Does anyone know why this has happened? HHmmm... something weird is going on. Now I cant open a single book through the app, every one says "Content Locked, We are unable to display the selected content. It may be locked or corrupt." If you bought the books under consideration using the new look checkout then it may be because they're still having difficulties reconciling purchases made through it.
They still haven't issued me receipts for any of the purchases I've made with the new look checkout so it doesn't surprise me that you're getting marketing advances about the books that you've 'looked at', because their various databases aren't talking to each other sufficiently to recognise that you've purchased the book. I also get the 'have another look at .... ' emails for books that I've already purchased on the new look checkout. |

No, some of these books were bought over a year ago, and some where full price books, no codes used.
I have emailed Kobo and will wait and see what they say. I am not hugely concerned as all of the books are in my Calibre and are also on various devices or sd cards. But I wont be buying any more books until I know whats going on. I am feeling a little paranoid that Kobo have locked my account due to the recent repeat purchases made with the 'magic' coupon code. I'm pretty sure thats not the case but...... |

To test your account just go through the motions of buying a book, up to the final stage, and then just close the kobo site so it doesn't go through. I think you'll find that everything will work A OK.

Its not the buying I am concerned about, its being able to read it once I've paid for it.
I cant download any of the books in my Kobo purchase history either. When I click to download them it says there was an error and please contact customer support. |
