Did the display model show any? It varies.

They didn't have display models out yet. Are you saying some 7" devices don't show the fringing? I thought it was a "feature"

Some claim they don't have it. My first one wasn't really noticeable at all unless you went looking.

I've got my third one here just waiting for it to warm up before I turn it on. Poor UPS guy was so happy to see the sun come out. He's the greatest!

Wish me luck!

That is true but I still would like to filter out only the Amazon Verified Purchaser reviews, only.

Do you know how to get those results?

Maybe put "Amazon Verified" in a search box?

I am going back tonight after BB has a shift change of employees. Hopefully they will be more customer orientated. 7 in stock must have been keyed into the databases by someone which I questioned this morning but maybe that was the amount the store knew they were getting and now it is a waiting game.

A follow up to a review asked about any blue haze on the 8.9. A different owner who knew about the issue replied there was not any so far for what they have read.

While at least that makes two.

Whoa! This has really strong New Smell!

What I've noticed so far. Came registered, and is currently updating to latest firmware.

It has a blue border but it's just a border. It's not as blue as the HDX #2 but it's bluer than HDX #1.

I put them side by side and WOW what a difference! HDX 2 has a green tint to the screen and looks really dingy. I notice on HDX 2 with the brightness turn down I can barely see the screen not so with HDX 3. I wish you guys could see how different the display is on the two! HDX 3 's display is crisp and clear. I think it's better than HDX 1 on that part.

So far very happy with the display! No flickering so far and the blue border is tolerable. Screen is clean other than that.

No scratches on the back.

I'm checking the rest out. Sound is next! Time for some Christmas music!

Okay once I put it in its case it sounds great! I never notice how much the case amplifies the speakers but it does.

Everything seems to be working. I am setting it up and doing a Factory reset on the one going back. The difference in screen explains why I couldn't read on the HDX 2 wow it's horrible!

HDX 3 is much better. The blue border on the right side is really blue though and less transparent shows up on about everything but Amazon says this normal right?

All in all I say it's as good and I am going to get. So hopefully no more issues I'm done.

I totally agree. I left a review but I bought my PW2 at Best Buy. I think it is short sighted of Amazon to restrict the verified purchase badge to those who only directly bought from Amazon.com. To verify that you have a Kindle registered to your account is extremely easy for Amazon. You have to sign in to leave a review and they verify the registered Kindle in your account. Pretty damn simple, but they don't seem to want to do that for some reason.

Also, I just noticed the totally BS reviewer badges of Hall of Fame Reviewer and Top 10 Reviewer. Give me a effing break Amazon. Just because some a$$hole makes a zillion reviews doesn't mean any of them are worth reading. And guess what, all the first viewable reviews are from people with the Hall of Fame Reviewer and Top 10 Reviewer badges. This just makes me think the deck is stacked more than ever.

wow, the Fire HDX is incredibly light! Makes my 1 yo Kindle Fire feel like a heavy rock, lol. First impression is very positive. Crisp true color display, no issue with book reading either that Blossom reported. Audiobook played beautifully. Email set up. Wish there was a way to copy my contacts over from gmail. will have to look into that. I bought the 32GB wi-fi, no ads version. $444 vs $599 for Apple iPad Air. Thats a big difference and I am a Apple consumer, both laptop and phone. I see this tablet giving the Air a run for the money especially in these financial times.
I like the on/off switch location too, never could get use the one on the Fire, was always hunting for it. Volume controls located on the back are ok, I can see they had to put them there as the unit is so thin, no room for buttons around the bezel. All in all, an A+ for an exceptional handheld device.

To import contacts from gmail just link the gmail account to the email app. It's really easy to do and they will sync back and forth.

Happy to hear you got a good one. How's the blue border?

I am upgrading from the same Kindle Fire so I know how you feel about how light and thin it is.

Copied from a review on Amazon, not a professional one:

"I also don't see the "blue border" issue reported for the 7" HDX. I've tried all different brightness levels and white/sepia/black backgrounds (in bright and dark rooms) and I just don't see the blue "halo" around the edge of the device. Maybe I got lucky...maybe it's not an issue with the 8.9" versions.

The only downsides thus far are that I notice it leaves a much wider margin around the page when reading books than my old Kindle Fire HD did. I've played with all the settings and it's just leaving bigger margins. I prefer to have it almost edge to edge all around, but this doesn't let me get nearly as close as my old HD did. Not a deal breaker...but odd."

The second paragraph, would you please verify? Thanks much.

By and large, most of the so-called professional reviews are pathetic and nearly useless, and often little more than a paid advertisement.

Reviews at a site like Amazon are filled with fanboys and fangirls purring over their latest toys. So 99% of these reviews are useless.

The best reviews come from actual users who are commenting on the real world experiences wherein they use the product. Many of these are fan-based and thus useless due to lack of substance. But a few are good, honest reviews that tell of genuine experiences with the product.
OK. In order to save my time and analysis, please list reviews that meet your criteria.

Congrats on the 8.9 HDX KoolReader Any blue fringe on the border on the ebook?

I agree about BB. I was looking at the Kindle HDX 7" (blue fringe by the way) and also the Ipad Air. A very rude BB employee turns off the screen I was looking at. I said well okay I don't need to shop here, and left. No 8.9" there. I really would like the 8.9", is it heavy?

Last time I go there. I will go to Staples, they do care and deserve your business. BB has been going downhill for some time now, particularly when Circuit City was closed, they must have felt no competition so treat customers crummy.

If things go wrong with your Kindle at Staples can you contact Amazon or is it strictly 30 days at Staples? I know Amazon will replace up to a year if problems. The last Kindle I had shipped was the K4 this last month and the box was ripped on one side in several places, almost opened. But the Kindle was okay so far. I asked Amazon about the shipping method and really got nowhere. So I am thinking go to Staples.....
