I'm in the 49-60 group. I started observing my reading habits throughout 2012 and read 53. This year 48 so far. I would like it to be 52 actually. I will not (most probably) count them next year as based on two years I think it is enough. I read fast, recently read 600 pages in 2,5 day but I do like to take a break in between, I do not read several books at the same time and don't jump from one to another. So I can read a book of 500 pages in 3 days (I work) but then up to 5 days break, unless it is series of course.

You sound like me: I go on reading binges where I run through a series back to back to back... and then go do other things for a week of more.

Hmm, binge... purge...
I have a book consumption disorder!!

I think at least some of the "61 or more" landslide-majority have to be reading on someone else's dime (not that I wouldn't if I could).

Well... Some of us are retired/semi-retired (I work about 10 hours/week). Leaves plenty of time for reading.

nicely said, welcome to the club. I had Agatha Christie binge twice (13 and 16 in a row) and then meh. Harry Potter in a row. Wallander. etc...

edit: and I like big fat books, 500+ pages. 300 is a short story for me.

Since the majority of mine are audiobooks, it's easy to multitask. For example, I frequently listen to audiobooks while posting here.

Oh, I get that. I've met enough 60+ books/year readers in real life to know they really exist. Just not sure that your demographic represents the vast majority of those that read/respond to these polls.

And even taking into account the specialized nature of this forum's membership, I find it a little hard to believe that an overwhelming majority of those who respond to polls like this one, always seems to select the highest number on the poll. Every time. Second place is never even close.

But hey!... I don't want to sound all crotchety or anything. It's just something that's always sort of amused me about MobileRead.

If I had to give up audiobooks, I wouldn't have the time to read as many ebooks. I would then probably fall into the 13-24 category.

I read about 25 to 30 books a year. I'm on pace for 40 this year, but I was off work for several weeks this past summer.

Hehe... still, reading 2 books per week would be possible, assuming they're "normal" books of around 350 pages. That would be 700 pages a week, or 100 in a day.

I read at ~35 pages per hour (with Count Pages set to 2400 characters per page; which would come down to around 300 WPM reading speed). Thus, I'd need around 2.85 (2 hours, 51 minutes) a day to read. If I'd drop every other hobby I have and always read in public transport, I could do it, and thus read 104 books a year. However, I don't want to drop all other hobbies I have, and at this time, I'm mostly reading about 1 hour a day.

People who are twice as fast as I am, reading at 600 WPM, would be able to read those 104 books in half the time, or read 208 books a year. People who claim to read 300, 500, or 1000 books per year have too much time on their hands, and are hereby obliged to tell me how they put 240 hours into one day

13-24 books. If I include audiobooks, it is closer to 100.

Katsunami, I am fortunate that I can listen to audiobooks while doing most of my hobbies. Once I stopped surfing the internet so much, it was amazing how much more time I had to listen.

How come you didn't do a 100+ for one of the options? In the last couple of years I've been between 175 and 200 and this year I'm aiming for 225, but not sure I'm going to make it.

And I agree with Chi. 300pages is a mere shorty for me. Give me something by Clavel, Erikson or Sanderson!

Completely! Sunday I have a part time job where I can read for almost 1/2 of the shift. I get a lot read then

Since I review books, and have been making a pseudo decent name for myself, I average over 100 novels and short stories/novellas a year.
