Unless you used Metazoa's patcher for 2.6.1 or 2.8.1, the advanced menu for fonts was only available when you selected a Kobo supplied font with support for those options.

With 2.10.0, Amasis, Avenir Next, Caecilia, Georgia, Gill Sans, Kobo Nickel and Malabar will show advanced beside the font name when selected in the Aa menu. The other Kobo supplied fonts and sideloaded fonts do not have that advanced option. Given the inconsistent results I found with Metazoa's patcher and sideloaded fonts, I suspect those 7 fonts are the only ones with hinting for the font weight and sharpness.

you can try setting the value in .kobo/Kobo/Kobo eReader.conf. After doing this, the value stayed even when turning light on and off on my Glo (interestingly, I didn't see this bug on my first try of the 2.10 firmware, after doing a factory reset I'm now again on 2.10 with this bug):

I am in Ottawa Canada and my Glo has not been updated from 2.8.1. You would think that by now it would be available especially since people in Toronto and Montreal have received it. I have tried it on 2 different computers, same result.

I find Kobo's method of tech support to be really bad with the files not available, no info on them and this forum the only source of information.

The Kobo Desktop doesn't have an update option, I had to download the newest version (3.4) and overwrite the old version. I should have uninstalled the older version but writing over it seemed to be ok. The newer version didn't result in my getting the new firmware though.

I probably seem to be a bit snob or rude, but there's a lot of people saying "I still don't get the 2.10.0 update" and being disappointed/nervous/angry about it... Then a lot of people speaks about doing some kind of trick in the configuration file to get the upgrade.

Why don't you just go to the Firmwares Thread and grab it if you DO really want it?

I mean, installing it is REALLY, REALLY simple and straightforward as explained in the 3rd post.

For once I was not eager to get the update and that’s when it became available pretty quick, I just ditched the files from the update and I’m going to wait a bit more, I like the statistic from the side loaded kepubs and don’t want to lose them, the thing is that I really would like to have the option to use the cross-referencing in the dictionary.

I tried that, but it still reverts to 1% when turning the light off and back on. For now I'll just have to keep the light on even on well lit places and remember to always enter sleep mode.

Not me, I just synced both the HD and my Aura 6"; neither have gotten it. I'm trying to be patient; these are my first Kobo readers so I'm curious to see how the automatic sync update happens which is one of the reasons I've not gone for the link in the Firmwares thread.

I went ahead and did the update using the firmware links posted. Everything seems fine so far. Pocket on the HD is why I didn't want to wait any longer. I've had automatic updates from Kobo before; they just download over the air and ask you to install. This is the first time I forced the update. It was simple and quick and painless. You may want to check it out.

Same here, but with firmware 2.8.1(a), first try no bug, then hard reset and returning to 2.8.1(a) and here it is the light bug.
the difference is that on 2.8.1 the bug was only about no light at 1%, now on 2.10.0 it also changes everything between 2 and 9% to 1% every time i press the light button or turning the reader off.

Manually changing the value in .kobo/Kobo/Kobo eReader.conf
worked well, but once you insert the value in the file, you are stuck with that value. If you change it directly from the reader the bug is there waiting for you
