So I sat down to try to read on it tonight and I have color blobs! Yep the blue seems to be mixed into the screen now where near the edge!
![]() I'm going to call Kindle support tomorrow and try for one more replacement if they let me do it. A blotchy tablet is not acceptable. I can ignore the border but I can't ignore blobs in the middle of the screen. Do you know what blue looks like on Sepia? Greenish grey smudges like background is dirty. I just want a good reader. |

Wow, I am shocked. A blotchy-screened LCD tablet? That is really bizarre. The one thing all tablets I have tried have in common is a smoothly, evenly lighted screen.

I just couldn't live with the crooked finger blotch on the right side it was too noticeable. So peeps make sure to turn your brightness up and look at the white theme and sepia theme for blotches! OMG blotches on a tablet! Reminds me of eInk. ![]() |

Do a full charge overnight and then a reset.
Quote:
Try an overnight charge. If the problem persists, hold the power key for 60 seconds to do a full reboot. Some of these problems on the Fires are intermittent and disappear after the overnight charge and / or reboot. Just to see if I could duplicate your problems with an eBook on the HDX 2013, I tried some changes in the font pane with an eBook open. With black text on a white background I did notice that light blue border around the edges not noticeable anywhere else. With dark sepia text on a light sepia background I noticed a faint sepia border. With light text on a dark background (my usual reading setup) there was no border showing and the text was crystal clear. There was almost no glare as compared to the HD 2012 which does have lots of glare. Try the light text on a dark background with a 50% brightness and see if all your "blotches" disappear in that eBook. Those "blotches" may also be reflections from a light source like a fluorescent bulb. Change rooms and see if it is still there. I do believe that the Kindle Reader App on the HDX 2013 definitely needs an upgrade. There is supposed to be a major upgrade coming in 2 weeks. Hopefully, it will all improve. It's not the light in this room trust me on this. It's the blue LEDs bleeding into the page. Remember I told you this one has blue toothpaste color border well the border It jumps spots then continues through the page giving it a nice smeared look when you have the light all the way down you don't notice but once you notice it with the light at 15% you can unnoticed it even with the brightness down. It reminds of eInk like a K4 or K3 background.
Sparking sound could have been the speakers. Interference from something near by most likely. Although if you smell burning it's not a good sign! |

Wonder if the 8.9" Fire will have the same issue. There was a review comparing Fire HDX 8.9 with iPad 5 and Nexus 10, their conclusion was that Fire had the best screen, and they didn't mention blue bleed.

None of the reviews for HDX 7" didn't mention the blue either till after it was released. It was like they said yeah we noticed the blue border but we thought since we were given a test unit that it would had been corrected by release our bad.

Blossom,
since you're reading on your Kindle X, how does it compare to the regulard hd? I'm thinking of buying a 7in tablet for reading, since I like variety [have the sony 350, nook str, kindle touch] and am wondering if it is worth it to wait to upgrade to the X. I won't be watching video's or using lots of apps. Is the increase in pixels in any way helpful in reading? Thanks... |
