Depending on your carrier and location you might get a good contract deal on the Galaxy S3 mini ($0.99 at AT&T--which has good voice and LTE coverage in my area) or the S4 mini ($99).
Unlocked, the S3 runs around $200.
Unlike HTC they have replaceable batteries and MicroSD slots to 64GB.

Me too. I had my eye on it and when the price dropped, I pounced - $200 outright, no contract, no payments. I have a payg plan with 7-11 Speakout for $25 a year.

For an additional $30-45 per month over a 2-year period and the probability of overages? Definitely wouldn't get a teenager one. If he wants a nice phone, he can cover the cost of phone and service. That's what my parents did with me.
