There are those upset about the touch zones and how they can not be customized and that you are stuck with tapping the left to go back, the right to go forward and the middle for menu. This can be a pain if you hold the book in your left hand to read. I found out that you can lightly flick left or right anywhere on the screen and the pages will turn accordingly.

I bought my Nook STR Glow used. I'm not buying a new Nook. I haven't purchased anything in a BN physical store in probably close to a decade. I still buy Nook books, but only because I get them at an effective 10% discount. Otherwise their prices are higher than most of the other shops and thus aren't worth buying from. |

Are you willing to remove DRM? If so, shop where ever you want and enjoy.
If not, Kobo, Sony, and I am sure there are some other stores that I don't know of. |

If you want to buy DRM-free, calibre has its own [Open Book](http://drmfree.calibre-ebook.com/) catalog that indexes DRM-free books from a number of different sellers. Selection is obviously limited, but anything you buy there you can be sure is DRM-free. |

i had high expectations for the new device like an improved more attractive form factor with the rounded corners being less rounded. it could have been slimmer, thinner, lighter, more options on the software.pdf REFLOW. more fonts and font sizes and making fonts adjustable like in the kobo. improvement like an explorer file browser allowing rapid browsing of the library. what we got was a big disappointing lemon with features removed...instead. they had every opportunity to improve it. |

(shrugs) Different people have different needs. There is a reason why people like the Kobo line. One is that there is a lot of customization options. People have developed hacks to customize fonts and line spacing for the Kindle and the Nook. It might be a small subset of the population, but there are folks who prefer to have that degree of control. That is why Sigil exists. It is why Calibre has font and customization options. Because there is a market for it.
I have been guilty of doing the same thing. I remember posting wondering why people cared about an SD card slot or replaceable battery or that touch screens are evil and you are all weird. What comes down to is that different people have different things that they want in an e-reader and who cares? If someone wants to 15 fonts and very specific line spacing controls, more power to them. If others don't, good for them. Although I still don't get how people who are willing to hack their e-readers and do all sorts of other technical stuff complain about walled gardens. Obviously they know about DRM stripping and can use Calibre so I fail to see how a "walled garden" exists for them. But that is a different topic. I swear it is code for "I don't like this company and I need a reason to not buy their product other then saying I don't like this company". |

Except for kobo 7 or 8 is pretty standard. You get up to 24 on kobo and the change is so minor between each one the only reason i can see someone wants that kind of control is to constant diddle with their lettering.lol Wonder how much time people (who need dozens of text sizes and margin options) diddle with their text???

toddos mentioned it, but Google Play has Adobe or DRM-free EPUBs, usually at the same prices as Amazon, not accounting for sales on one store or the other. I've occasionally found a good deal on diesel, too.

It's not about having 50 or 100 sizes, but of having the *one* size you want. And a font you like, margins and spacing you're comfortable with. A good scan width at your preferred reading distance. It all comes down to: Whose device is it? |
