three Samsung Galaxy Player models (mini-tablets) at Woot through 11/8

Woot has all three models of the Samsung Galaxy Player (3.6", 4.2" and 5") on sale through Nov 8, factory reconditioned, for $74.99, $89.99, and $109.99 respectively, with $5 shipping and 90-day Woot warranty. Note the $5 shipping is per order, and the deal expires at 9 am US Central Time - in the morning - so it's really only good through Nov 7 and a bit. Also, of course, only while supplies last.

Although Samsung marketed these as mp3 players, or media players, I've got both a 5" and a 3.6" and have always regarded them as mini-tablets, since they run Android, and Android Apps. I read a lot on my 5", using it to save my phone battery when I am going to be traveling or out and about for a long time. I use the 3.6" mostly for music but have read on it in a pinch too. These are essentially smartphones without the phone - just with wi-fi.

These are last year's models and last year's version of Android, and the 5" one is a bit bulky compared to what you could get now (although still not bad, and when I bought it, it seemed svelte), but these are good prices, and I've loved the two I have. I'm trying really hard not to buy backups right now!

YMMV, of course, depending on whether you like the idea of a really truly mini mini-tablet...

I want to get a new MP3 player that can run apps, since my iTouch is about 3 generations out of date and has ceased to function. Never bought factory reconditioned items or from Woot before. Anyone else have experience with them?

I have ordered many many things from Woot, and have had no problems with them other than that they are a bit slow to ship.

I've updated the link in the OP, so it works now, and thanks for letting me know.

Note these are not "new" - they are refurb, and also last year's models, but I'm still quite happy with my two.

I can't comment on Woot, but I picked up the 4.2 model the last time I was stateside, and it was also a refurbished item with 90 day warranty - so likely from the same base source.

I've been happy so far.

Size and weight are great for me. If you particularly want it for music, go for the 4.2 model. It's supposed to have the better sounding digital audio source over the other two models, according to reading amazon reviews.

Since the 4.2 and 5.0 also have the same screen resolution, text will look much better on the smaller 4.2 screen. I was also pleasantly surprised at how large the system text is (like in gmail), I can read it without wearing my glasses, which is a plus for me.

Woot is owned by Amazon now. In my experience, they've always had excellent customer service, even before they were purchased by Amazon. I've had a few items I've had to return or swap. They've always paid return shipping and on replacements even cross-shipped the new item before I sent the old one back. I've heard a few people with complaints, but my experience has generally been very positive with them.

No one is buying these apparently.

Just picked one up (the 5" one), will root it and install 4.3 Jelly Bean when it gets here. Will be nice, especially for Umano and all the other apps I'm missing on Windows Phone. Plus my Humble Bundles.

Too soon if I had the digital funds I would grab one in heartbeat. My Card is still blocked because of Kobo and Woot doesn't take PayPal anymore.

I want the 3.6 it would be the perfect size for me.

I really enjoyed my SGP 4.0, but the hardware is a bit dated for my uses. I kept running up against RAM limitations. Now I have a Nexus 4. With 2GB of RAM, I feel like a monkey in a banana store.

Between the SGP4 and the iPt4, the SGP4 is the clear winner with a much better feature set.

That said, I'm still using my iPt4 on a daily basis; but for two reasons only - readily available speaker docks and because I restricted its use to an audio player (audiobooks, OTR, streaming music).

I would've done this with the SGP4, but there aren't any speaker docks for it. Some idiot at Samsung stuck the charging port on the top, so it would dock upside down. Just as bad, is Apple's idiotic decision to put the headphone jack on the bottom of the iPt4. Design engineers really do need to visit the real world every now and then.

Will get it on Wednesday. Typical of Fedex, it was 30 minutes away and made a U-Turn.

It's not that big but yeah it's bigger than a cell phone. I watch movies on mine all the time the only annoyance is the lighted keys but I know you will have no problem rooting it and turn those off.

I just got the 4.2 through a private seller so I am looking forward to a smaller version.
