I keep a paper library of around 800-1000 books that I have to cull occasionally. I am trying to build a equivalent e-library, and also bring back some of those culled books. I figure an e-library of around 2000 titles in the end. Since I re-read, this should keep me going for the rest of my reading career. (Of course I cheat with Harry T's great omnibus editions....They only count as one each...)

I voted other. I don't find downloading to be fun, it's just another task to be done. But I do download books to add to my stockpile of books to be read. My Sony 505 currently has 153 unread books on it. My pbook library of hard cover books has 214 yet to be read. Together I have enough books to read for my next life and a half.

I download ebooks or buy pbooks I am interested in reading as I come across them -- whether by reading a review or by seeing them in a bookstore. I learned a long time ago that if I didn't download/buy the book when I first was interested, I quickly forgot about it as I discovered another book of interest.

So, yes, I do download to build my stockpile, but I do not consider downloading a fun thing to do.

I try not to acquire books unless I plan to read them. However, I've discovered that ebooks are much easier to acquire than pbooks. I'm working hard not to be a hoarder.

I've learned that in life if you don't get it when you see it, it won't be there next time or you'll forget all about it. So I buy all the books (e or p) I'd like to read when I find them.

There are so many, I keep a Word file of what I buy on any day named as that day. In the files I put an hash before each title I've read. When I've read all the books in a file I add an r to the file name.

All this is on the ppc I also read the books on.

I probably have nearly 2,500 ebooks on 8 sd cards and without this system I'd be lost.

I'd like to have a proper database so I could find a book easily but that would take too much time away from my reading.

A quilter calls all the fabric they own a stash pile. Is that the right term for ebooks too, or is there a special word?

A natural hoarder.

I've been cleaning out my paper book library for the last year--but they still overflow my shelves. It has been getting to be a slower process. Each book I have to ask: will I read/reread this book? I don't know how many I have left--don't want to know.

I have about a hundred books on my Sony 500, and about 300 stored on the PC. Now, only just now, I'm starting to ask myself: will I really read this book, or do I only want the doubtful pleasure of just possessing it? Well, I love the idea of libraries--so sue me!

Oh no! Let's not talk about my fabric stash! I've spent so much time on MR lately that my sewing has been neglected but the stash is still growing.

Downloading and organising the downloads is a chore, not fun. Choosing what to download can be fun.

But I guess I'm a horder. The books available here are either in my Classics or my "to be read" folder. I get free ebooks when they appear (e.g. the TOR ebooks). And I do buy, although I'm trying to cut down just now. Why?

... because I have a couple of hundred eBooks in my "to be read" folder. I am trying to wait until I've got my way through that folder before buying any more eBooks.

Although I do get the Baen webscription each month, and I also have subscriptions to Grantville Gazette, Jim Baen's Universe, Analog, Asimov's and F&SF, so I add another nine or more books to my "to be read" folder each month.

And then I have a pile of micropay at fictionwise waiting to be spent. But it will have to keep waiting for a bit. :-)

I embroider. 2 years ago I started a UFO list on my ppc. I got scared and embarrassed and stopped at 16.

The ladies at my local EG group banned the term UFO and say WIP.

Downloading is a chore. Calibre does the organizing for me, so that's not too bad.

I'm not really a huge hoarder, in the sense that my reading pretty much keeps up with my downloading. But then, at any given moment I probably have about 50 unread books (mostly E, a few dead-tree) waiting for my attention.

Part of the issue is that the range of my reading is sufficiently broad that I'm rarely sure what I'll start next before I actually start it. SF/Fantasy, history, poli-sci, biography, romance, mystery, thrillers, historical fiction, science-related non-fiction, economics, woodworking, ummm... nearly anything that isn't horror or modern lit-ra-choor.

I voted other. I've only had my Kindle for 6 weeks, so ask me in another few months if I'm a hoarder or not. So far I've been pretty good about not ordering much unless I'm down to only 2 or 3 unread. So I keep a buffer at the moment so I have choices but I am trying to keep it in reason...after all, I don't want my amazon.com visa to explode! Though I am downloading some free books too.

Ok,

I voted "I don't download new things until I finish what I've got".

However. There is a small exception when I see a message here about a free book that sounds interesting I will d/l it and through it in my library and on my reader. I also only keep ebooks on my reader that I haven't read yet... which is why I don't want hundreds or thousands of unread ebooks.

I download when I find something that may be interesting. This is a habit from pbook buying. Long ago I would only buy when I got without something to read. Often I had trouble finding something when I wanted/needed a new book. So I began going by book stores whenever one was near & buying what looked interesting. Now I do the same with ebooks. I'm way behind.
