Any way to merge 2 cudtom columns?
Was given a friends Calibre library.
He has a custom column "Genre" which is Comma separated text, like tags, shown in the tag browser. I have "Category" column which is Text, columns shown in the tag browser. The Column type is greyed out and can't seem to be changed in both custom columns or I would change the type to match and the names to be the same and then import the smaller 6,000+ books library. Any ideas how I can merge them or do I have to create a third column combining the contents of the 2 above? |

Try using the bulk Metadata edit to copy the contents to the new column |

You can use bulk edit search and replace to add the contents of the "Category" column to the end of "Genre" column. This works because genre is a multiple-value column. You can't go the other way because category is a single-value column.
Be sure to back up you library before starting the experiments. Bulk search & replace has no undo ... |

Thank you all.
Glad I asked, and really thankful you answered. 30 seconds to modify my generic regex and apply it on 3 books. ![]() 10 seconds to save it. 60 more to select the 10609 books of Catalog and apply the copy regex. Dancing in the streets . . . . priceless, since I don't dance.:thanks The power and flexibility of Calibre still amazes me. |
