I was fortunate to have a really good PW1, which I used exclusively and quite heavily for more than a year. My first PW2 was too yellow and I returned it for another, which is less yellow. Overall, I prefer the PW2 because of the faster page turns, improved contrast, and the Page Flip. I hung onto my PW1 but I will probably give it to my mom who is has a K3.

I have upgraded from a K3 to a PW2. I think their estimation and advertisement of 8 weeks between charging is very misleading. Since I read for perhaps an hour a day and have had to charge my PW 3 times in the 3 weeks I have had it, I'm very disappointed. I was also disappointed with customer services at Amazon UK, who were not prepared to replace it until I " insisted". I will take delivery of the new one on Tuesday. I'm not rushing to send my first one back until I have compared the 2 together.

I also think that the battery life should depend on the font setting (and therefore how often you turn pages), how often you use the dictionary, using the new features etc. Do you read more at night than during the day? How does that affect the light setting? It is difficult to generalize those personal habits to come up with a standard. Perhaps you can compare to your last reader, its standard and whether your habits have changed in a way that would improve or lessen the battery life.

I took two cycles and recorded reading session times for the Paperwhite 2013 in a spreadsheet leaving WiFi on all the time and a light setting of 15 out of 24. I got 13:29 in one cycle and 13:56 in another cycle. I charged when the PW message at 15% charge was issued.

However, now I turn WiFi off every night when I shut down my PC and don't turn it on until the first reading session. |

i much prefer my PW2 to PW1. it's a significant upgrade. the light is now a seamless part of the device, you no longer scrutinise it like you did PW1 due to its uniformity. this is the device amazon wanted to launch last year but failed to. the improvement in the light has also markedly improved contrast.

the software upgrades are also significant. having bookmark previews and page flipping now closes the gap between e-readers and real books in my opinion. i can virtually hold pages by bookmarking so i can flip back and forth. the page scanning also gives a nice representation of how far through the book i am physically, in addition to letting me jump around and preview other chapters. |

I prefer the PW 2 - especially for the warm screen colour. I'm also very pleased with the software, and its ability to finally show page numbers on the main screen.

However, I prefer the PW1 bookmark method, with its one step, instead PW2's two step process. I find the new process frustrating, as it seems to get caught in a loop, requiring multiple corrections. Last edited by Victoria; 11-03-2013 at 10:30 AM. |

pressing the screen one more time is a small price to pay for absolute clarity of where i'm going to jump to, imo. also having all the bookmarks accessed from the top right is surely cutting a step? |

I didn't realize it had a purpose, because I've only ever used one bookmark, which I delete when I start reading again. Thank you very much for explaining the additional functionality. You're right - It opens a whole new door of possibilities - and another reason to prefer the PW 2

I'm excited about the possibilities of the new feature, especially for non-fiction and references, as I need to refer back more frequently. Last edited by Victoria; 11-03-2013 at 11:06 AM. |

				Bookmarks required in some books

Plus, with books related to history and biography, one may jump forward and backward for word searches and information and the actual reading position can only be held with a bookmark. One may even leave bookmarks to quickly locate important notes and / or highlights without using the "Go To" feature to scan all of them. Syncing does sync all one's bookmarks in addition to latest page read. |
