Sunrise doesnt process 404
Hi Laurens
There is an Indian news website that i read. The url of a sample article is http://www.indianexpress.com/story/874.html and the corresponding printer-friendly article is http://www.indianexpress.com/printerFriendly/874.html The tricky think that these guys have done is that the http response of the printer friendly article is a 404 not found GET /printerFriendly/874.html HTTP/1.1 Host: www.indianexpress.com User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.0.1) Gecko/20060111 Firefox/1.5.0.1 Accept: text/xml,application/xml,application/xhtml+xml,text/html;q=0.9,text/plain;q=0.8,image/png,*/*;q=0.5 Accept-Language: en-us,en;q=0.5 Accept-Encoding: gzip, deflate Accept-Charset: ISO-8859-1,utf-8;q=0.7,*;q=0.7 Keep-Alive: 300 Connection: keep-alive Referer: http://www.indianexpress.com/story/874.html Cache-Control: max-age=0 but most browsers show the resultant html page. How can i ask sunrise to process this page. thanks tovarish |

that is indeed a pity, it is a problem with the http client library. i could try and update your sources to include such a possiblity.

Not a problem with the HTTP client. 404 means "not found" and should be treated as such. User agents may actually choose to display their own error page or some other message. Suppose 404 (or other 4xx or 5xx) pages were, indeed, processed: you would end up with a document full of wasted error pages.
This is just a bug on this particular site. |

I notice that they have RSS feeds on that website. Have you tried using Sunrise to download the feeds? Try it, might work.

I agree that a 404 shouldnt be processed by default but it would be nice to be able to have the facility to do so when websites like these use tricks. tovarish |

What makes you so sure it's a deliberate trick?
