If I dd it, then you could put it on a card and swap your card out for the new one. Putting your original card back would effectively restore your backup.

There is a concern for someone who may wish to make use of any warranty on the device. Opening the case usually voids Warranties.

Ken:

1. The patch on rcS (kobo startup script) fails if this file has already been patched by somebody (side hacks). You can send me the KoboLauncher/autostart/rcS.rej file and I'll tell you that's wrong.

2. Anyway, I've written in the release notes that autostart doesn't work for Aura now (screen rotation problem). Probably it will be fixed in the near future.

P.S.

Autostart mode: run KoboLauncher at startup instead of nickel. And run nickel at exit from the KoboLauncher.

Thank you for the new build.

It's very nice to be able to change frontlight settings in Coolreader now and to toggle frontlight

Just a suggestion: If possible, remove level 0 from the frontlight settings (inside Coolreader and in Settings in the Launcher). There is the toggle and the checkmark, level 0 is not really necessary.

Also it might happen that the light get turned to 0 accidentally which is very annoying in the dark. I never manage to turn on frontlight again without external light...

Tried launching Koreader from the Kobolauncher but it is still having that old corruption and lack of touchscreen problem. It would have been convenient, especially with your Autostart working.

If you think it is a good idea (and if possible), could the 0% be removed from the frontlightmenu that you can open in the Coolreader as well? There's the toggle tap action and the check mark... but problems when adjusting the light in the dark would be the same as in settings when accidentally (even though it is easier to find the ">").

Sorry, I've forgotten about CoolReader. I've made it in the Kobo Launcher... Will be fixed in the next release.

I also have the freezing problem like jlynton. Left for a few minutes and it freezes. 2.8.1 with no other modifications except KoboLauncher.
