Need a new lighted reader

I've been very happy with my Nook simple touch glo for the past year. Now the screen protector is fading and I'm starting to see white spots. I need an ePub reader with glowlight, with plenty of room for some 1200 side loaded books (I read in spanish, side loaded content is my main reading). I really regret the new Nook Glow, only 500 mb for side loading (only one third of my books would fit in). I heard of the Kobo Glow, but I have no experience whatsoever. I really miss my Sony PRS T1, the best of the lot, but no glowlight (indispensable). Thanks in advance for all the advice!

Your choices are the new nook Glowlight, the Kobo Aura, or the Kobo Aura HD. I am leaving out the Kindle Paperwhite because your eBooks are in ePub.

I am making my recommendations based on you possibly living in the USA since you do have a nook STR.

Onyx has an upcoming HD eink model with open Android that would let you run the Nook for Android app. (As well as Kindle, Kobo, and the various open reader apps.) Price looks like it'll be in Aura HD territory.

Alternately, if your books are DRM free (or you're familiar with Alf) you could convert them to Azw3 format with Calibre and go Kindle. That will hold your sideload with room to spare.
Otherwise, your best bet is Kobo.

Is the screen protector one you added? Maybe remove the screen protector and the white spots will go away?

Nothing added. I find that whenever I carry my Nook in my purse, even with padded protection, it always has some kind of debris, mostly what's inside all purses, and that erodes the screen protector slowly over time. Mind you, I've had it for over a year!

The Kobo Glo is awesome, and possibly easier to get in the US.

An alternative would be a Nook HD, though that might weigh more than you want (315 grams) and of course the battery life is not as good.

If you weren't set on epub format I'd say get a Kindle Paperwhite and use Calibre to convert your books. The Paperwhite is a great reader with a light built in.

The Nook Glo white spots are usually the result of incidental impact damage to the light spreader layer. A design "feature" fixed in the new model.
In the old ones the only way to get rid of the white spots is to turn off the frontlight.

Why would you do that? De-DRM-ing is automatic, and reading EPUBs on a Kindle is is just a click away using Calibre.

I also recommend the Kindle Paperwhite, coupled with Calibre and the Apprentice Alf plug-ins. I've been using Kindles and Calibre for years and it's the perfect solution for cross-platform, incompatible format ebooks.

If you can only fit 1/3rd of your 1200 books on 500mb of free partitioned space on the Nook then it you wouldn't be able to fit all of them on the 1.2 GB of free space on the Kindle Paperwhite. I'd suggest the Kobo Aura.

No, because I want to be able to strip their default Times New Roman font out of the book, and remove the font-family reference for it. To do so, it has to be an EPUB. If I can get an EPUB as source format, I always will. It saves me a conversion step and a cleaner format to work with in case I'd want to change anything.
