PW2: X-ray and Wikipedia tabs don't show up anymore

I just got my PW2 a few days ago. Last night, I was loading books into it. I want PW2 to stay alive to finish indexing overnight, so I disabled the screen saver by using the "~ds" command. I also, did a ";711" command to check wifi info during that time.

After playing around with it a little bit more, I found out that when I check the definition of a word in a book, the dictionary box shows up, but the x-ray tab and the Wikipedia tab are missing. I remember that they showed up fine when I first got my PW2. This lead me to think that either the "~ds" or the ";711" command may have screwed up my firmware.

I tried to restart my kindle, pressed the power button for 20s to reset it, and did a factory reset, but the tabs never come back.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

You must do a Device Reset by going to Menu / Settings / Menu.

It should be noted that, if you set parental controls to stop purchases at the App Store, that must first be removed to do this.

You can also go to the Manage Your Kindle page at Amazon an deregister your unit from there. Then you will have to re-register it later.

I did the Device Reset already, but the tabs are still missing.

Call CS. The Wikipedia tab should show up. The X-Ray tab won't display if the book isn't configured for X-Ray. Most of the books I buy don't have X-Ray.

The X-Ray tab should show greyed out if the book does not have it or if the specific word accessed is not in it. If your device does not have a wireless connection, the Wikipedia tab will be greyed out as well.

If you did a device reset, then you will have to call CS to request an exchange.

You may want to download the latest firmware version from the Amazon site and try to reinstall it. If you damaged the firmware you have, a re-install may fix it.

No you are wrong. The X-Ray tab on the menu bar across the top of the screen will be greyed out if the book does not have X-Ray added. However, there is no X-Ray tab at all in the Dictionary pop up window if the book does not have X-Ray. The X-Ray tab in the Dictionary pop up window is only displayed when a book has X-Ray. I just verified this on my PW2.

You are correct on that. I just checked that Manchester book without X-Ray and the word definition pane does not have X-Ray.

Maybe that is what the OP had noticed. If he is missing the Wikipedia tab as well, then maybe a re-install of the firmware will fix his unit.

That is my thought too. The absence of the X-Ray tab might not be a cause for alarm, unless the book has X-Ray. But the absence of the Wiki tab is definitely an error and needs to be reported. However, I'm not familiar with the commands the OP typed into the PW2. It sounds like the OP might have brought this failure on by his actions, so I would not mention those commands when talking to CS.

I just talked to CS, and we figured out what happened.

It was because I registered to amazon.cn, so the Wikipedia tab doesn't show up. After I switch it back to amazon.com, the tabs show up again.

The CS was very nice and patient. They told me that they will report this issue and have this fix in the next firmware update.
