BTW I've checked out JBHiFi and Woolies ebooks and prices and find that they had very little variety and very big prices compared to other ebook sellers.

Silly companies

Hello again to you all and thanks for the warm welcome.

@ Solicitous - Kobo eReaders do indeed create sales commissions for the retailers. A device Id can be traced to the retailer and is used for warranty and sales-commission purposes. I think that this is a uniform practice so other retailers such as JB and Officeworks would also receive commissions, from my understanding.

@ Lynx Lynx - We will continue to sell ePubs as well as the other formats. Some of the newer formats like FLePub we currently have blocked as they misbehave in our older apps, so the range will increase with the inclusion of that and ePub3, also currently blocked.

Kobo have modified their data feeds so the information within them allows a different treatment on the website front-end. I will check when I'm back in the office tomorrow that we can definitely broadcast ePub as a distinct format (I think we can but wish to confirm how the feed is structured).

Thanks again for the feedback and questions.

Alastair.

Note that we are due to upgrade our eBooks pages in mid October 2013 which will alter the way you transact your purchase of an eBook. There will also be a change in the location of your eLibrary.

From mid October 2013 onwards, when you click on the Blue eBook button button for a title you want to purchase, you will automatically be forwarded from the Whitcoulls site, to Kobo’s site in order to complete the purchase transaction.

So I received an email today saying that the switch has occurred

Quote:
As of October 29 we have moved your entire eLibrary over to be hosted by Kobo. You can now access your eBooks from the www.kobobooks.com website or from one of the free Kobo eReading applications. You can log in to the Kobo website or applications using your Bookworld login credentials.
But as I predicted neither my A&R books or my Bookworld books have appeared in my Kobo account

Have you linked your A&R and Bookworld acounts to your Kobo acount? When I log in to the Kobo website and go to the My Account page, I can see options to link Facebook, Bookworld, Angus & Robertson, and Whitcoulls acounts under Sign In Options. I haven't tried this as I don't have any books on those accounts, but I wonder if this is what you need to do?

Thanks that makes perfect sense unfortunately it didn't work when you select the option to link the account it asks you for the username and password to the bookworld account which I entered, and received this error

Quote:
The value '' is invalid.
This could be because the username and password for all 3 accounts is exactly the same

Hey Melmac, I have the same situation as you - Kobo and Bookworld accounts with the same sign in details and when I go to link them in Kobo I get the "invalid" message.

I'm not much bothered as I only have a few Bookworld books and they're on my Aura and in my Adobe Digital Editions account - but it would be nice to have them all together in Kobo which I foolishly assumed would happen automatically... oh well...

I'm not bothered either as I have them in calibre and on the dropbox cloud but that's not the point they were brought and paid for and should be available to me if I require. Bookworld responded on face book as follows

Quote:
thanks for contacting us in regards to this. We are currently looking into this with the team at Kobo and will have it resolved ASAP.

We will advise you here once you are able to access your library with your existing details, however if you'd like to merge your accounts sooner, we have been informed that you will be able to merge your libraries on Kobo if you hop onto the Bookworld website and change your email address. There is some helpful information below if required.

Thanks for your patience!

I have't tried the change your email trick but someone else on facebook did and it still didn't work.

Books all missing from www.Kobo.com library

I have received the same update advice from Angus and Robertson.

The books have disappeared from the A&R site but are not on the Kobo site.

In addition my kobo ereader can no longer buy any new books from the new site and I get as far as the pay button and it asks me to update my billing information which I know is correct on both sites.

When I attempt to buy books the kobo reader correctly shows which books I have already purchased because instead of showing a price they have 'Details'.

So some mechanism on the kobo site must be aware of my purchase history!

With all my books missing does this amount to book theft?

I've got the same problem with the Whitcoulls site - I have the same sign in details for both Whitcoulls and kobo. My whitcoulls books don't show in my kobo library, and I don't see any link to Whitcoulls either. Luckily I freed my books long ago, but it's still annoying, I'd like to have them all in the kobo account.

I've logged a ticket with Whitcoulls. I'll see what they say
