I've noticed italics work perfectly in Cool Reader, with my favorite side-loaded font. |

My Hubby and I each get a monthly allowance that we can spend however we want. We can tease each other all we want but we cannot complain about how the other spends that money. Works great.

This is why it can be a mistake for spouses to decide everything together, or meddle with every decision the other is making. Chances are you will block something you don't deem important, you don't know anything about, and you don't care at all, but the other finds very important for a multitude of reasons. Be it Kindles or apparel or cars or whatnot, if it isn't our passion, we can't possibly understand what the other person is going through. To quote another (not so serious) source, Dr. Phil once said, if a matter is 90% important to once spouse and 10% important to the other, the one who finds it 90% important should be allowed to decide because it would be worse for them to be denied than for the other to be overruled. By this logic if you really want and need a Kindle, and the partner really doesn't suffer that much if you do get it, you should be allowed to get the Kindle. Now, of course every successful partnership requires checks and balances (so that, say, one partner doesn't bankrupt the whole enterprise), but the basic idea is really good in my opinion. We may not always understand why our partner finds something important, but if it seems like more important for them to have it, than for us to stop them, let them have it. |

Got my PW2 in Australia today. I opened the box and I was ecstatic. The screen was leaps and bounds better than the PW1. Thought I got a perfect unit.
Then I saw the pin holes... *sigh* Getting it replaced. Sad to see the replacement system has been made a little more complicated. The standard Amazon support used to get send you a new one, and get the old one back. Now it has to go through the Kindle replacement team. I hope that means better quality control? Who knows. |

When embedding a font you have to add four font files to get the entire font. One file each for Normal, Italic, Bold, Bold-Italic. Not all fonts come with all files (glyphs). Arial Rounded MT Bold for example is Bold only, so you either have to borrow the other three files from another font (or fonts) or settle for Bold text throughout the book. So perhaps Blossoms font doesn't have all the files (glyphs).

Yes, my replacement come and I think the light is even, although it's warmer than my first pw2.

![]() And we're off-topic as well. Oh, bother... Agree... as you said, there needs to be a balance. Buying the latest Kindle, Kobo, Bokeen, Icarus, the iPad and the iPad Mini each and every year is a bit... uh... obsessive. I can fully understand that a spouse is against that. I wouldn't care if my girlfriend buys some new $insert_stuff_here once in a while, but if she would buy a pair of shoes every WEEK, then it would become problematic. To be honest, if prices are reasonable, and I/we can afford it, I expect to be able to buy the heck whatever I want, and when I want it. I'd allow a partner to do the same, obviously. You can be QUITE sure that I'm not going to come home and say: "Hi, honey! I've just bought myself a new car! It was on offer, for just €28995!" Last edited by Katsunami; 10-21-2013 at 02:00 PM. |

X-Ray is on all history books.

Thus, the author may NOT have introduced them. It could be Amazon just linking to Wikipedia and other widely available sources (DOD, Sratfor etc.) after the author submitted the book to Amazon for publication. Maybe the authors mark the key words and Amazon Publishing just provides the links. Last edited by sirmaru; 10-21-2013 at 02:08 PM. |

We all buy what we can afford.

If folks are at the low end of the economic scale, a PW 2012 is more than enough to just read eBooks. If folks are well endowed economically and like electronic "toys," then a PW 2013 AND HDX 2013 provide great entertainment. Last edited by sirmaru; 10-21-2013 at 02:13 PM. |

The only non technical or IT related book that I read recently was Steve Jobs bio. There, X-RAY was useful indeed. But for my regular MS-SQL or database books, I do not see the point of X-RAY. It's not available on most of those books and it won't provide any added benefit. |
