Because she was born in Canada, The Luminaries is also nominated for the Governor General's award here.

Another Canadian! Another woman! Someone's got it in for poor Gilmour, it seems.

The National Post interviewed her today. I chuckled at this part:

Quote:
Have you been able to gauge the reaction back home? You’re only second New Zealand writer to win the Booker.

I think people are very excited. The timing was really nice — it was morning in New Zealand when it was evening here, and my book club back in New Zealand, and also my students that I teach in Auckland, were both having brunch and watching it live. So that was pretty nice.

We’ve been trying to claim you as one of our own. I’ve been getting angry emails and Tweets from Kiwis saying we need to back off.

Oh gosh. They need to settle down. I’m very happy to have two homes.

Well it is nice to see that the ebook version of The Luminaries is available in New Zealand, her first novel The Rehearsal is geoblocked here.

Thanks, that is a shop I hadn't heard of before. I guess it must be a choice by the publisher not to sell it through Amazon, Kobo, etc. in NZ.
