Sorry you had bad ones. BTW, my PW1 screen is crooked exactly like the one on the left. It shows worst on the home screen where you can see the black top bar not quite reaching the bezel in the top right corner. |

It seems to be generally true to say, reading this thread, that those people who were happy with the PW1 tend to be equally happy with the PW2, and those people who were unhappy with the PW1 are likewise unhappy with the PW2, which reinforces my view that, leaving obvious physically faulty units aside, happiness with these devices is largely a matter of individual expectations and perception.

I was never totally happy with my PW1, even after a replacement (the replacement was a million times better than the first one but still not great). However I am absolutely over the moon with my PW2 - I got lucky and they sent me a good one fist time and I have no complaints whatsoever about the screen this time.

My Kindle Touch was like that. It was more tan than grey. In good light it looked okay though.

Funny! You should put that statement in your Amazon.com review.

I guess you just missed them. I saw plenty of reports online of crooked PW1 screens, including my own. I researched it when trying to determine whether to keep mine or not. I concluded overall my screen was better than I expected of a replacement or two, so I kept it despite the screen that is at a slight angle.

Even if that were true (I'm not so sure it is in this case), the fact remains: different technologies have different weak points. Non-lit e-ink screens do not have most of the issues listed here, so a person buying a $69 Kindle is much less likely to find problems with it, even when searching for them. The frontlight technology seems to be prone to a certain range of issues resulting from LED allowances, layer alignment and purity etc. that simply aren't there with pre-PW Kindles.
