I hoped if i could start this utility (SSH server) could be used to debug what happened and why scrsvr hack didnt work or at least be able to access some info inside the kindle which will tell me if its SO device model. -------------------- so now we found two hacks that didnt work as supposed 1) Scrsaver 2) SSH server on this kindle. Its clear this kindle is not accepting the hacks. ----------- If it doesn't, check the FAQ, with a particular emphasis on 'Is this a Special Offers device?' and 'Did it come from Waterstones?'. - you said. i followed the link "FAQ" at https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...&postcount=625 but it dosent tell me anything how to identify if its SO model. Im still puzzled. ----------- |

Where did you buy your device?
Check your 'Manage Your Kindle' page, the Special Offers status is specified there (in the 'Manage Your Devices' section). |

Hi NiLuJe,
I bought from amazon online US when i was in SanFrancisco a couple of months ago. it was the current model at the time. last week amazon sells a newer model which is current now. there is no SO information in the kindle settings page or devices page. here is a screenshot, you can confirm it too ! I only removed some name and personal info in two lines in that screenshot. other data is shown as it is on that page ![]() MOD: screenshot removed to protect Serial Number Last edited by ixtab; 10-14-2013 at 02:37 PM. |

Hi !
what is there on kindle screen in sleep mode ? its the cover of a book which amazon wants me to buy ! it says " Last train to Istanbul" by Ayse Kulin. - int'l bestseller with a strange picture on this cover. if i switch it on and read some book then make it sleep, another cover comes up - a blonde a beach looking quite skinny, holding a bag - Catherine Bybee - "not quite enough". hope u get the picture ![]() can you instruct me clearly how to get the SSH server up and running ? i did run the SSH server hack a day ago. but i dont know how to connect to it exactly from my PC. I installed an SSH client "PuTTY for windows" on my XP now. i have to connect the USB cable and how to get the SSH server up and running on the Kindle ? what command ? and where to give it ? [Moderated] any suggestions ? Last edited by NiLuJe; 10-14-2013 at 02:15 PM. |

Congratulations, you have an SO device!
Given your screenshot, you're not in the US anymore, so I'd suggest you contact Kindle CS to find a solution to unsubscribe from the Special Offers. No one here will tell you otherwise (see forum rules). Last edited by NiLuJe; 10-14-2013 at 03:44 PM. |
