So glad for you. I'm Vietnam too and now I am requesting for a replacement. I found that the lighting is not very even. The top and bottom is something like white and the middle is yellow. First I didn't recognize, but now umm... not very happy .

I've just received my PW2 and I am very unsure about it. I closed my curtains and played with the light. I need the PW2 on 5 to get the same light as my PW1 on zero, is that correct?

My screen is yellow, and actually darker than my PW1 with no lights on at all, is that right as well?

I also have a small intense light bottom left where it leaks from the frame, not too bad but I wonder if it would be annoying after a while.

Tbh it's more the darkness of the screen with no lights that's the most annoying thing, I couldn't read on it with the light on a bit, not on that screen.

I'm damn glad they don't do that, because my mother's Kindle was stolen, then recovered. (And how would Amazon have known where the Kindle was located, anyway? It's not like the police would be interested in knowing that somewhere in the world a Kindle associated with your crime report has just been activated. Not that Amazon know which police station and crime report number is associated with any given stolen Kindle anyway.)

Yes, it looks like you're right. you had to use the same kludge of embedding fonts as the PW2. Fortunately the Nook can be rooted Shame about the Kobo screen. Hopefully, they'll fix it. Otherwise the only reasonable mainstream reader on the US market is K4/5 (i.e. rootable with a v.good screen). Not being able to add custom fonts on a lighted screen would be a serious shortcoming for me, what with the issues the light introduces.

Yes, the same for me. Near sighted, and I don't need glasses to read or examine close objects. Saw the pin hole yesterday immediately without glasses.

If someone says minor defects like that don't bother them, it seems reasonable. Otherwise, I have to wonder why a simple act like reading causes some to draw battle lines and epitomize Hoffer's True Believer.

I've phoned it in as faulty so they are sending me another one for tomorrow, see what I get with that one, if that's bad as well I'll stay with my PW1.

I knew this was possible but at the end of the day if I am disappointed from the moment I turn it on then it's not the Kindle for me. In a situation like this my gut instinct in the best one to go with. It took 3 attempts and 11 months to get a good PW1 so it may be the same this time.

I saw a perfect demo model before I ordered so I do know what a decent one should look like.

I can live with Helvetica font-wise (I much prefer sans-serif) but I will probably start embedding the "Aller" font that I was using on my PW1 for future purchases (can't be bothered to modify and reload all my existing books). Though obviously still hoping that a end-user installable JB can be found and that we can then use the usual goodies from the devs.

Actually Helvetica is the closest font to what I use anyway, but of course, that means a decent PW2 to start with

Sounds about right, the PW2 has a wider range and goes much lower than the PW1 could.

It should be a bit warmer than the PW1, but not jaundiced. With the light on the devices off (on screensaver) I can see no difference between PW1 and PW2

Definitely not normal

Hoping for you that the replacement is better. Ask them if they can give you that Waitrose display one you liked so much

Well that is interesting to know, about embedding fonts for use in an unrooted NST. Not that I will get another one. I found the form factor too large for my taste. Other than that, it was a great reader. Sharp contrast. I loved the file system. I would buy an updated NST with a smaller form. I chose to go with the Kobo Mini over the NST due to the size, weight, and ability to choose the font I want. I miss that file system and SD card slot, though.

I giggle at the form factor comments. My first thought when I got my PW2 was how small it was but I couldn't help thinking back to my K1 with a certain degree of fondness.

Sirmaru, it´s logic that you can't see pinholes or blobs in the PW. The awsome thing is that you can read.

If you doctor says that you have a 20/20 vision it is possible that you need a new doctor.

I happen to see that NORMAL picture and it is 20/20. Sorry to disappoint you.

Plus, I have "age-appropriate" macular degeneration but at my age I'm more likely to die in 30 days than ever go blind. however, surgically correcting the cataract could cause the Macular to worsen and cause blindness.

I've known lots of folks who have worn glasses their entire life and they seem to need stronger and stronger glasses every year.

The trick in life is to work around our declining organs, NOT fix them. Everyone I know who treated their defects in the "normal" way, are now DEAD. Most centenarians have never had surgery for anything and are not on prescription drugs. That's how they got to be centenarians.

Yes, I will just have to live without seeing PIN holes. Sorry to say, I don't mind that defect. I also never saw the color blobs. By the way, when some folks circled them here for my benefit, I did see them but would probably ignore them if they were viewable on my PW 2013.

Back to topic the OVERWHELMNG number of reviews on Amazon on the PW 2013 are FIVE STAR and do not mention pin holes or color blobs. I guess they all have deficient vision since their units are PERFECT in their own perception.

This was the same for me on the 3 PW2's I tried. In the dark I had to keep the light higher on the PW2 to read than on my PW1.

However, in a well lit room, the background on my PW2 was lighter than on my PW1 at the same light level.

Both Paperwhite models are best used in bright ambient light. For dim ambient light the Kindle Fires (HD and HDX) are best. That is why I own both types of Kindles.
