The problem was that you posted a 'drive by' Apple attack in the Apple Devices forum and in a thread from an OP asking for help.

You provided no help, just snark.

Not helpful to anyone at all, and certainly not the place.

Asking why you would want to store 3000 books on your device, assuming that everybody has the same needs, was not helpful either (that's what the first reply did).

This is a forum, people express their opinions, if you don't like what somebody has to say, just don't read it.

OK, so let's see....use my crystal ball to know if I'm going to like what I read before I read it, then DON'T offer my opinion about it, because this is a forum for opinions, so offering an opinion on what what people say here would be wrong.

That line has to win some sort of irony award.

My reasoning is along the lines of "don't read what those people post", not "don't read what you just read". But the crystal ball is a good approach too, feel free to use yours to decide whether you should read this post

I provided an opinion as to the real problem.

You are welcome to disagree and I won't denigrate you. Not one bit.

I like those little crystal balls that when you shake it, it comes up with "YES", "NO", "Maybe", and a few other choice opinions.

Perhaps the forum could provide those that wish a ball like that, a button that will render similar general answers for the participants here.

Ex. "Should I read this?" "No", "Yes", "Skip to next thread", "Go read a book", etc.

Maybe so, but you have demonstrated zero knowledge of any Apple products in your posts.

In fact, your only goal seems to be to insult Apple users. You rarely discuss the products at all.
Quote:

You are right, I don't own an Apple product myself but I have bought many for relatives, and of course then there is always the "Hey Dad, or Hey Dear, look at this!" "What do you do here?"

I never blinked when a kid surprised me and didn't get the new Mac I offered for a big birthday but kept the old one and got a new iMac desktop box for his home.
Nor at a request for a iPod Touch 4th generation. A 5th generation was offered.
Likewise I provided a Nexus 7 from Google to another.
And many other devices.

I might question some of these machines specs or not having removable media or awful prices, but still I paid the bill, and helped on the difficult problems when I could.

I still have somewhere on one of my computers some subroutine that keeps trying to load Safari, iTunes, and Quick Time. You see I had iTunes on the computer when I first set up the iPod.

I don't consider myself an expert, but I certainly know more than I wish about Apple products.

So I consider that I know enough to comment occasionally. If you disagree with what I say, then correct me if you can, otherwise go find someone who wants to engage in mutual character attacks with you. That is not the kind of person I am. Life is too good and full to take time to kick up muck.
Again, you have neither demonstrated that you have any actual knowledge of Apple products, nor that you have any purpose in posting other than to, specifically, attack Apple users on their choice of products.

Again, stop attacking Apple users. It doesn't make anyone thing you are any smarter. And it's clearly out of place in the Apple forum.

I've been pondering for a while whether or not I would say anything about all of this. Naturally, I have an opinion, as we all do, but not all opinions need to be expressed.

What I don't understand is why anyone on this message board could possibly be bothered with what reading devices other people are using. And why anyone who is not using a certain brand could even be bothered to go to the section of the forum meant for users of that brand and make little comments and digs and snide remarks about the brand and those who have chosen to use that brand. I honestly don't get it. What business is it of Android users or Nook users or anyone else for that matter if some people use Apple products? What business is it of mine if others use Android or Nook or Kobo hardware?...Wait, actually I do have some experience with Kobo hardware so I actually could make a comment based on experience...But you know what, I don't. Because the product I used has been discontinued by Kobo. It was my choice to not go with that brand again, but I certainly am not going to go to the Kobo board and start trying to irritate people who have chosen to stick with Kobo. It really means nothing to me what products of tablets and readers other people choose to use, and I certainly wouldn't dream of going over to subforums and trying to irritate and provoke those who use other brands.

I thought there were rules on this board about making inflammatory posts and being rude to other people. And that even trying to disguise such as a 'just kidding' type of thing doesn't excuse it.

I see another thread over here that looks like another attempt at provocation. Again, I don't understand the point of this. I'm not a moderator, but I do think that this sort of thing does violate the posting guidelines.

Quote:
1. Discuss Things Politely

Our members have developed a strong, constructive online community. To help maintain this friendly, supportive atmosphere, we ask that you follow these standards of politeness.

MobileRead is intended to be a family-safe and work-safe website. Please post accordingly.

Do attempt to state your point of view in a way that avoids misunderstanding. Remember that we are an international community and not all members are posting in their first language.

When things get controversial please disagree with the opinion, not the person.

Try to be sensitive to others when you post, and tolerant of others when you read their posts.

A rude comment is still rude, even if you follow it with a smiley, "just kidding" or "I'm only joking" or "This is meant to be humorous."

Deliberately provoking other members is prohibited. Members who post provocative or inflammatory posts will be warned. Persistent offenders may be banned.

Name calling is not permitted, even in the form of a question, e.g. "X's posts make me wonder how much he believes what he's saying, or if he's just a troll."

MobileRead reserves the right to limit discussion that is outside the realm of good taste, or uses foul or hateful language. We won't tolerate any form of hate-speech.

Remember that you can use the "ignore" function to ignore a member whose posts irritate you, but you must not announce in open forum that you have done so.
I'm sorry for going way off topic here, but I really am getting tired of seeing this sort of thing on various threads in this forum.

There is one very good reason to use Marvin. That is the Dropbox support. Instead of keeping 3000 books on the iPad Mini, you can keep say 10-20 and the rest in Dropbox to load as needed.

iBooks is just a lousy piece of software. Please give Marvin a try. I'd love to know how well it can handle 3000 eBooks.

Try Dropbox again. But this time, make directories for putting books in. That way, you pick the directory you want, pick the book(s) you want and go from there.
