Ah, too bad. I would have tried another PW1, seeing how the later ones had less issues than the first ones that came out.

I'm sure Amazon has a lot of these they have to get rid of. This seller was NOT selling 1 or 2 of them but multiple quantities of PW1. He had to of gotten them from somewhere, and I would guess it would have been Amazon. You just don't buy this many off the street. It's not stolen - it's lost and returned to Amazon and de-registered. Amazon has to go through a 3rd party seller. The Paperwhite still works. I downloaded the newest update and was able to set the date and time.) |

Well, if you search for the seller, he looks to be legit.

That is what I'm saying. Amazon has to "wash their hands" of returned Kindles. They work. What are they going to do? Throw them away? The serial number is bad but the Kindle still works - what do you do?
The eBay seller is a 3rd party seller or what ever you want to call it. They are not stolen. They may be turned in Kindles - sure. But I wouldn't call them stolen. They must have 100's of them (or more) that they have to do something with. Selling them for pennies on the dollar to a third party seller makes sense to me. The seller is a middle-man. He buys and then resells. That he has good reviews for selling / delivering an item does not mean the item he is selling was not stolen at some time in the past. His purchase history indicates he rarely / never buys from the same source more than once and mostly sells used and parted out items.... a functional PW1 that cannot be registered for $39 dollars? No, I'm not jealous...I'm ethical.

there's a refurbished kindle touch on ebay with a buy it now price of $7495.00. Free shipping no less. 10 Available. From an experienced seller. Doesn't seem to be gold plated either.

In my opinion.. there is no comparison between the KPW1 vs the KPW2.. the KPW2 is so much better.. way better..
