I found it interesting reading his obituaries that he was visited by government agents who wanted to know how he obtained classified information. He persuaded them that all his research was done with unclassified material.

Not that I've heard of. It was a sudden illness is all I've been able to find. Of course he died at Johns Hopkins so it could have been his heart or cancer I'm thinking. You don't have to be old or have had bad health for a long period of time before dying though.

Sounds like my brother-in-law. Everything is a conspiracy to him. Though I'm not sure he would even know who Tom Clancy is. Don't know if he's ever even read a book outside of school years. Not that it's a crime not to, but he manages to read every piece of conspiracy crap on the internet and swears that it's gospel because "It's all over the internet."

He used to be one of my favorite authors, but when he franchised himself and took on co-authors, I stopped reading him.

I found the following at an updated copy of his Wikipedia page:

John Gresham, a co-author and researcher with Clancy on several books attributed Clancy's death to heart problems: "Five or six years ago Tom suffered a heart attack and he went through bypass surgery. It wasn’t that he had another heart attack, [his heart] just wore out.

Hopefully it will put any conspiracy theories still floating round out there to rest.

RIP. He's been one of my "must read" authors (his fiction, anyway) for a long time. Unlike many, I don't mind the coauthor books. I like the Dune extensions, I like the Bourne series post Ludlum. No, they aren't "as good", but they are still entertaining to me.

I'll keep reading the Jack Ryan Jr. books as I'm sure they will continue to be written.
