It is UF, but it has a strong May-December romance between Cady, the 25 YO heroine and Lon, the 40-ish hero (who also has an adorable 13 YO son named Jupe, who steals every scene he's in). Cady is smart and very mature for her age so the romance is believable and the paranormal elements are very different from the usual vamps, werewolves, etc.
This must be US only It's been on my tbr list for awhile, but shows as $8.99 in Canada.

BTW, love this thread and the discussion, as the recommendations are invaluable. I want to read the good stuff!

Yay, I had this on my wishlist and someone recommended this one to me, I just can't recall anymore who. . I don't think I like getting older and forgetting things. Maybe one day I forget the books I read and I can just re-read what I already have over and over and save money

2. Unraveled (2003)
3. Unleashed (2004)
4. Unmasked (2005)
And thanks for recommended these books by C.J Barry. I just finished the sample of "Unearthed" and I have to keep reading. I have been looking for this type of sci fi romance. Me happy.

Friends Without Benefits (Knitting in the City) by Penny Reid

Quote:
Friends Without Benefits can be read as a standalone, is a full length 120k word novel, and is book #2 in the Knitting in the City Series.
There are three things you need to know about Elizabeth Finney: 1) She suffers from severe sarcastic syndrome, especially when she's unnerved, 2) No one unnerves her like Nico Manganiello, and 3) She knows how to knit.

Elizabeth Finney is almost always right about everything: the musical merits of boy bands are undervalued by society, “benefits” with human Ken dolls are better without friendship, and the sun has set on her once-in-a-lifetime chance for true love. But when Elizabeth’s plans for benefits without friendship are disarmed by the irritatingly charismatic and chauvinistic Nico Manganiello- her former nemesis- she finds herself struggling to maintain the electric fence around her heart while avoiding electrocution or, worse, falling in love.

I haven't read her paranormals, but I did read her "Noble" light-hearted Regency series and cracked up through it! Very excited to see there's a fourth book upcoming, when I looked it up just now.

I really liked the Nobels and some of her older contemporaries, but the paranormals not so much. I read of few of the dragons then dropped the series, I liked the vampire series even less.

Honestly, I've never been even tempted to look into the paranormals! I read a few (time-traveling highlanders, I think) that crossed over into my preferred sub-genre (historical), and it was all so.. Well, the super-human ramped-up bad-assery kicking all the bad guy butt and hopping into a car and speeding away, and I just was bored in my disbelief. I can do fantasy, but it was just so over the top that I rolled my eyes once a page.

I have read a few of Patricia Rice's Regency witch series, and a Regency vampire book by Lori Brighton (I think a novella linked to it just went free over the weekend) that I enjoyed and would probably give other historical paranormals a try, were our resident PNR aficionados to suggest any...

Is there a way to actually download these into Calibre or are they strictly online, in-app reads?

I am checking into that, will let you know! I just created an account.

Edit - Online, in-app, according to this:
http://support.bookshout.com/discuss...tions/344-epub

I will still get the free book, in case there's eventually a way around that. Or if I get a tablet, eventually. Doubtful, but in the realm of possibility.

Won't be buying anything from them, though!
