I live in Spain, my new paperwhite has arrived a few minutes ago. Perfect screen, a little yellow compared with my PW1. Previously I returned two PW1. |

I read in bed last night. I had the lights off and had the PW2 set at about 25% of the light. It worked great. No issues.

I've now read a complete novel on it; with my light set at 7 the contrast is acceptable to me, even if lower than my previous few non-lighted Kindles. Last edited by bwaldron; 10-08-2013 at 08:42 AM. | |

				Paperyellow?

I lucked out last year with my PW1. I preordered it when it was announced and received it on October 2. The screen was great with no color blotches. The light was a bit uneven at the bottom, but not at all distracting. I've spent hundreds of hours in the past year reading it in all light conditions and have been very happy. When the PW2 was announced, I initially passed on preordering it, only to become intrigued by some of the new features and the promise of even sharper contrast. I ordered it last week and received it yesterday. Having read about the pinhole problem on this thread, I was relieved to see my PW2's screen was fine. No pinholes, blotches, or uneven lighting. In my well-lit office at work, when I placed the PW2 next to my PW1, I thought text looked slightly but noticeably sharper while the screen looked slightly yellow but not distractingly so. I thought I would be very happy with my new toy and proceeded to load my books onto it and start reading. All was well until last night. I tend to read a lot in our dark bedroom. I generally set my PW1 to level 4, which provides a comfortable amount of light for me without straining my eyes or bothering my sleeping husband. Last night, when I tried out the PW2 in the darkened room, I was struck by how much yellower it appeared. At level 4 it was very dim and was unreadable. At levels 6-7 it started to approximate my PW1's level 4 but was still not as clear. I gave it a fair try but finally gave up. I really don't understand why Amazon went for a yellower look to the screen when the device is called a PaperWHITE. I hope the next iteration of the PW is better, but in the meantime I'm happy to still have my PW1. |

I'm beginning to think I'm better off canceling my order because in the last photos it definitely looks washed out on the PW2, both text and background on the PW1 looks definitely darker and sharper. And hearing about pin holes etc..does not give me high hopes of getting a better device then the PW1.. I will have to make up my mind soon if I'll let it go through or cancel it and keep my PW1 for the time being. |

My pw2 is coming next week but I don't know if I should keep it. Does pw1 have better text and contrast? My first pw1 looks perfect except uneven lighting from top to bottom, but it doesn't look bad. I don't know if the yellow things can effect my decision.

In the US, you pay return shipping costs for non-defective items. What about Europe?
