It seems that most of these monthly freebies were the ones they gave away for free when they launched Whispersync for Voice. I've already go this one and I know I didn't pay for it.

How does this work? By this being the Whispersync deal does that mean that the eBook is free or the Audible version is free? Because although the book is showing free, the Audible version is showing as $3.95. Thanks for any help given.

You have to "purchase" the free book, then there is a link off the post-purchase page to add the audiobook (free in this case). If you already own the book, you can add the audiobook and as long as your Audible account is linked to your Amazon account (which owns the book), it will give you the discounted price (free in this case). I think it shows up full price until the last page of the checkout process, but it shows the book price as whatever it is, then the "you pay" price as free. I know there was an issue last month that the free audiobook wasn't actually free for the first couple of days of the month.

With normal Audible books, I can listen to them on my iPhone using the built-in Music App. It appears to me to listen to the free whisper sync books, I have to install an Audible App. Is this true? I'd rather not have to use another app. I'm not really interested in switching from reading to listening. When I listen to a book, I don't read it.

How do you listen to any books from Audible without using their app? I didn't think the music app supported their DRM. "Regular" books from them and Whispersync books from them aren't any different file wise.

I was under the impression that you need the Audible app to listen to Audible books, period.

Can the built in music app really play any Audible content? (without drm-stripping conversion, that is.)

I wouldn't know; I don't use the Music app on my iPt4. I use the Audible app for all of my audiobooks. Besides Audible, it'll also play audiobooks in your iTunes library.
