hyphenation

In the GPL sources for 5.4.0 firmware there is hyphen library from Hunspell project. Does it mean that PW2 supports hyphenation in books reader app? |

Tearing apart your new Kpw2 and then connecting to and using the serial port is not a good place to start. Of course you can, if you wish, but not the recommended.

"Of course you can, if you wish, but not the recommended." - knc1 I agree with this statement. Unless you mostly know what you are doing AND could deal with having a broken kindle. Don't do it. If you really want to no one will stop you though. |

Answering my own question. I looked into main partition image of PW2 and didn't find any trace of libhyphen being used. That is strange. Maybe I missed something or maybe it will be used in future releases.

USB - serial cable has arrived, Paperwhite 2 has been dispatched... Just waiting on the soldering iron and the wire.

Whilst this is for the PW rather than the PW2 I'm hoping that it's along the same lines. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sT902XX03Nw I won't be pulling it apart until I have everything I need in place, but as soon as I do I'll try and write a step by step guide, probably with pictures. I've got insurance on my Kindle, just in case anything goes wrong. Hmm, looks like I may need a friend to be present as the cables for the usb-serial adaptor are colour coded and I'm colourblind. Sorry, I never thought of that possibility when I suggested getting wire-wrap wire because it comes in different colors. "Now connect the green wire to ...." "Say what? What about all these gray wires?" Yeah - I bet that makes doing this sort of work a lot of fun.

I'm only red-green colourblind. My grandfather only saw in grey and he designed and built: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Williamson_amplifier The man was a genius, I never did work out how he could tell which resistor was which. He must have had to ask every time. Oh and if anyone is interested: http://critiquewall.com/2007/12/10/blindness That gives an answer to the most asked question when I tell people I'm colour blind. "What colour do you see this/that as then?" It's not quite right (I can make out some of the differences) but it's pretty close. |

Excellent news, thank you npoland. Paperwhite should hopefully arrive today, fingers are crossed that the soldering station does as well. Kindle has just been handed to me, as has Soldering station... Looks like we're a go for tonight, I get home about 5 ish GMT, will jump on the IRC channel, and see who is about. Bah, no solder, will have to wait to mod it now. :'( I'll hopefully have some solder by tomorrow so will have to do it on Saturday morning at the earliest. What sort of tight company doesn't include some solder with a new soldering station? Even the cheap soldering irons we used to order for the electronics class used to come with a roll of solder. Rather than write a guide I've found a Youtube video: Code: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sT902XX03Nw I'll also take the serial cable down to the local with me tonight along with some masking tape and get the cables labelled with the colours on them (Good thinking Batman (even if I do say so myself)) Last edited by Akirainblack; 10-09-2013 at 09:05 AM. |
