The leather dye was leftover from when I freshened up a card holder a couple of years ago, I got the paint and brushes from £ stretcher or similar I've also used car paint in the past to spray terracotta flower pots, might have some of that lurking somewhere too - so does that make me a car bodywork expert by association I quite like having a go at doing stuff, but believe me I can't draw - I can just about copy something if it's simple enough but that's the extent of my abilities |

Fine, blame me of it makes you feel better! On ebay.com it shows a tracking number in "your purchase history", so that makes it easy to see where one's stuff is. I'd say, ask for a refund. It took me 2 emails but they paid me back for the messed up case.

The last sentence made me perk up: what kind of varnish is that? I keep wondering what I could use to protect my purple ebay case from getting dirty. It would have to be something that is not poisonous, so I don't have to wash my hands every time I use my Kindle.

It's just some random all-purpose spray varnish (the spray-outdoors-don't-breathe-in-whilst-doing-it-type) It's normally fine to handle once it's fully dry and stops smelling so since I have it, I'll be using that. It's likely no worse than whatever is used to finish the covers in the first place anyway. You can probably find some less lethal stuff if you go looking on the net though Last edited by Yolina; 10-06-2013 at 10:42 AM. |

Why did I not think of this before ???? You remember that I wrote that the first tiny stain was due to olive oil ? Well, reading your post, all of a sudden an idea came through my head. So I took a white cloth, poured a tiny bit (really tiny) of olive oil (we have 5 different sorts in the house, don't ask, so I took the one with the faintest smell), and "worked" it in the cover. It is now a tad darker, the stains have disappeared, and my guess is that the cover is protected for a little while. I may have to do this regularly, but I don't mind. And it is not toxic too. My guess: neutral shoe polish would work wonderfully too. Last edited by aceflor; 10-06-2013 at 11:09 AM.

Funny! I WAS thinking, a while back, whether something greasy may work, and I DID think about coconut oil, because I have some in my house, but wasn't sure if it would a) look horrendously blotchy and dark and b) would be constantly oily and leave oil smudges on my furniture. Aceflor, thank you for the pictures (since I have the exact same case). Does the case feel greasy to the touch? Can you put it on -say - a bed sheet, without leaving greasy spots behind? It changed the color a bit, but it's still lighter colored than the official case. |

If it all fails, you can just eat the case. Talk about a fiber-rich dinner
