I don't think so. Demanding reader or not, it seems obvious that there are multiple dimensions to "better" or "worse." Whether the poll covers too many is of course a valid question.

I could have answered your poll LOL. The one here is way too complicated for me to bother with.

Yes, my PW 2013 is better than my PW 2012 due to better contrast but both are great eReaders. When I use them, I only concentrate on the eBooks I am READING. I don't take 3 hours to closely examine the cosmetics.
The only key problem I would note would be MECHANICAL failures like freezes which this poll did not even address.
Actually the freeze that you experienced is very likely a software issue and not a mechanical failure. Whereas screen defects such as pinholes and light bleed are more mechanical in nature being the result of issues with the manufacturing process or the hardware assembly, component tolerances, etc. They do exist on some devices but whether or not they bother you is a matter of perception, lighting and other variables.

Here are a couple opinions that found an improved frontlight, a faster devices, but no real improvement to the screen.

I am in favor of upgrading; my competitor is against.

Great survey!
Good point. I forgot about the light bleeds on the PW1. I tried to remember all the screen issues and cover them in the survey, but I'm sure there are others I left off too.

Well, I guess some folks just don't have analytical minds. I guess they see things only in pure black and white with no shades of grey.

A matter of priorities

Some folks are spending hours and days to find all the cosmetic irregularities on the PW 2013 even going to constructing full black and white cards to display to catch them, using flashlights and magnifying glasses, high priced cameras with very high magnification and varying the device lighting and ambient light settings.

They already have their enjoyment from the PW 2013. Their next project will be to prove the KFHDX coming on Oct 18 has scores of other cosmetic problems. They will have a great time doing the same and posting all their findings here.

Some of us just want to READ eBooks with the best eReaders on the planet where even the elderly can now read whereas before they had to stop reading at much younger ages or undergo expensive operations and buy expensive glasses.

We all have our own preferences in this regard and spend our time and money in the way we want.

Thank goodness Amazon doesn't waste their QA budget on this or the Kindles would be way overpriced as are all the iPads today.

Where is the Yellow Screen question? I see "With light level high, my PW2 screen is whiter/creamier/lighter than my PW1 screen" but I can't answer that. If it said "creamier/darker than my PW1" then I could. But not whiter. Of course you do give us the "Greyer/Darker" option.

Sigh. So many questions. I wish I had held onto my PW1.

Absolutely. I like to keep it simple so in my world, you're either satisfied with your PW or you aren't (in which case you can always buy a different ereader). I just can't understand the reason to obsess over every single possible difference between PW1/PW2 and compare every single dot.

I agree 100%. EReaders are for reading eBooks - not running breakdowns on every cosmetic irregularity. The only criticism I would ever voice would be if I could not read on it. If that happened, I would simply exchange it with Amazon and not even think about it.

This poll looks headache-inducing. I still have both and will only say the PW2 from my perspective is a vast improvement over my PW1. Making the decision of whether or not to purchase or upgrade really shouldn't be so arduous. We're talking about a kindle, not a car. It's not that serious.

There are so many questions because saying I like this one better than that one makes no sense to anyone but you. It leaves us with this thought: We really need to quantify the reasons one is better than the other. Some people are on the fence trying to decide whether to get a PW2. Each person will place an emphasis on items unique to their tastes. For one the most important emphasis might be font darkness/thickness. For another it might be whether there are pin holes or dust. For another it might be whether there color blobs. So this survey is NOT designed to say one is better than the other, but to let us see how many think a particular screen issue or characteristic is better on one than the other.
