Cleaning Collections between devices

How do you import collections in Win8, I do not see the option.

In K4PC Win 8, go to Library \ Collections. Next to Collections. Next to Collections is a plus (+) symbol. Click on it and you find two options: New Collections, Import Collections.

"Import Collections" will show all your Kindle Devices still registered at Manage Your Kindle. Select one of them and its Collection Names will be imported and AUTOMATICALLY attach all related eBooks to each Collection Name whether downloaded or still in the Cloud.

If you had moved those eBook files over from a Windows 7 K4PC, they will all have to be downloaded again.

If any devices were deregistered, the related Collections will not show since they were destroyed by the deregistration.

The problem is that the Collections from each device will be sorted in the same manner as they were created on the related device and cannot be resorted in K4PC. Thus, I had to delete all imported Collections in K4PC and recreate them in the order I wanted (numerically sorted). I only had 9 Collections so it went very fast.

Importing from device to device works better since they can all be sorted on each device.

I am not seeing that, mine looks like this with no option for imports. At first I thought I had an outdated version, so I updated. Still no luck, then I uninstalled and reinstalled and it still looks the same:

You are accessing K4PC from the Win 8 Start Menu. You have to start it from the Win 8 desktop to see the other menu. You will have to set up a Start Icon on the Desktop Task Bar for that. Actually, I had Dell Premium Support do all that for me. I have no idea how they did it. I did not like the Win 8 Start Menu so the they went through an hour of work to customize my desktop so it matched Win 7's desktop.

I've never started K4PC from the Win 8 Start Menu. That is the first I've seen of that screen. I just opened it and discovered I never did sign in for that version at all.

I am using K4PC version 1.10.6 (40500). Now I'm not sure if that is K4PC for Win 7, K4PC for Win 8 or some other version customized specifically for Win 8's desktop.

Ok, now my confusion is cleared, that is actually the regular k4pc. The same one I've been using, I do not like that Win8 version. Now back to our other conversation, did you try to re-register the k3 to see if the collections are actually gone from the server? Don't put anything on it, just register it to your account and then use one of the other devices to try to import collections from it.

I've already got it packed for a Christmas gift. I don't want to unpack it and then re-pack it. Thus, I won't participate in the rest of the experiment.

With it unregistered, the device does not appear on my import choices.

Are you suggesting that, when the recipient of the gift registers it, they will get my old Collections? If so, I don't mind. I posted all those 9 Collections here.

By the way, is my version K4PC for Windows 7?

No, I am not suggesting the recipient will be affected at all. I am saying that this device is still lingering on your account. Do you see the K3 on your kindle? If not, then it should be gone from their servers. I do not know if my account is just all whacked up, or if this is normal behavior when there have been many devices with many collections off and on. Most likely, it is a fluke and that is why Tech Support was required to clean out my account. But I can say my k4pc apps show the correct devices, it has been my Touch and Paperwhite [both generations] that have been showing the lingering devices. According to the CS this was how it was supposed to be, which I am starting to believe is true. My k4pc is only showing my paperwhite g2 to be imported from, which is what it is supposed to be showing. But my paperwhite g2 is showing the k4pc app along with the four other old k4pc apps, so I am still waiting for them to knock those collections off of my account.

I just went to my PW 2012 and clicked on the Cloud \ Import Collections. It shows 3 other Kindles and 2 K4PC Collections. I only own a PW 2013 and one K4PC active. Thus, you are correct. Collections are held for every Kindle you ever owned which allowed for them. My KF 2010 and the KFHD 2012 are not shown since they did not have Collections.

Its fine with me and doesn't adversely affect anything else. One K4PC Collection shown was from my Win 7 PC and the other is from my Win 8 PC.

Actually, this could be beneficial. If we wanted to dredge up an old Collection, we now can do it.

CS cleaned out all my old devices and my collections on their servers, now I can start off fresh again and have good clean collections. LOL, at least until I bog them down again when I change my naming conventions.
