My experience with ChaptersIndigo has been very good. They are generally very good about returns and usually deliver in less than the estimated delivery time. Keep in mind that this is in Canada. I have no idea what their service to the USA would be like.

Actually chapters will ship to almost anywhere in the world. Shipping was around 37 dollars to Mexico and to somewhere in Europe (don't know where Owly is from...) so it's most likely the flat fee for outside of Canada and the US, if you feel it's too risky to ship to the US you can always have it shipped to your home.

Hi, huge mobileread lurker entering the ereader world after 'making do' with a BB playbook. I'd like to know if any UK Aura buyers have had some luck finding a decent device at a WH Smiths?

The new paperwhites been pre ordered but everything about the Aura speaks to me, im off today/tmrw to try and find one locally (cheshire) so i can have a gander but just got a bit put off by all the issues or appearance of issues reported thus far.

Using the Aura in the dark I have noticed a slim shady border all around the edge. It doesn't go near the text, although it is close to it at the top.

If you have an Aura and go into settings there is a black border around the page, this is the size of the shadow.

Anybody elses have this?

My Aura is pretty good, no pin pricks or light bleeds. I bought from WHS and it was the first Aura we opened - they had four in stock, I believe. This was in Watford which is a long way from where you are though. Good luck.

You've nothing to lose by going into your nearest WH Smith and trying to get a good one. It seems that they all only have a fairly limited amount in stock, but you might get lucky and get a good one first time. The demo model I viewed had no issues with pinholes, just the bright band along the top of the screen.

Thanks both for your help, mostly small smiths near me so probably none on display but your right i can always take one home for inspection.

Comparing the new Paperwhite with the Aura, if i manage to purchase an aura with no issues is there any reason not to keep it in preference to the preorderd new paperwhite? on paper the aura seems to trump the paperwhite in most respects. Pdf viewing, storage, customisation etc

I know it probably comes down to personal preference but the aura seems to be a step ahead especially if the niggles of the pw1 have transferred over (in part they have it seems on the paperwhite forum) to the pw2.

Hello, PWGD, and I don't blame you for introducing yourself. It must be difficult to lurk around the grounds undetected when one is huge!

Specs can't always account for our prefs or the results of empirical tests. The reason to keep the Aura and not the PW2 would be that you preferred it in real life and not in tech tables. It sounds as though you might not know whether that's true just yet.

Can you keep both for a brief time before deciding? You might find comparing them fun as well as instructive!

Besides which, if you want bleeding edge e-ink tech, there's the PW2's Carta screen to consider (though, personally, I'd still buy the Aura because I prefer epub to Mobi and Kindles seem increasingly difficult to jailbreak).

ha, yes i must have been feeling dramatic earlier on, should have put 'long time lurker' least it wasn't in caps! Thanks for the advice. Yes i could maybe test two at home, probably my best bet.

I didn't mention aesthetics before but will also add it to the list of things i prefer about the Kobo Aura. Much more attractive device imho especially the flat screen.

I'd agree with Prestidigitweeze that if you are considering both the PW2 and the Aura, if possible get both to compare so you can decide which one you'd prefer to keep.

If you get perfect ones without any pinholes etc, there doesn't seem a whole lot to choose between them. The text/display doesn't seem as sharp on the Aura as it is on the Aura HD, so that doesn't sound too great in comparison as the PW2 text looks to be quite crisp. I'd really like to compare the lighting on both, as previously the Kobo has been a little blue. On the other hand, the customisation options are a lot better on the Aura (font, margins etc) than they are on the PW, plus the Aura is a fair bit lighter and smaller too. Then again, customer support from Amazon is far better than Kobo....

There are a few variables to consider for both, and it probably depends on what is more important to you personally. So again, if you can try them both, that's probably the best way to go.

I haven't pre-ordered the PW2, but am considering it along with the Aura. I've been put off the Aura a little by the fact it's clearly not as good as the Aura HD, but I might yet buy both online and return one of them. The pinhole issues they both have are a little off-putting though, I don't like the thought of having to exchange them a couple of times to get a good one. So I may even end up waiting and not buying either right now....

Why don't you trust them if I may ask? Is it because of reliable shipping or possible defects?

Oh, and they have had them to order for at least a week.
