I think this is the exact issue I am having on my new aura (non-hd) Although I do not think wifi is connected at all in my case
I had some books that I converted from mobi (I moved from a kindle) and it seems they were converted to kepubs for some reason. I just removed all books from the device reconverted in calibre using the default output profile (rather than kobo) and sent them back to the device. So far so good..... |

The ONLY way a book is EVER converted to Kobo ePub format is if YOU the user has installed in calibre either the KoboTouchExtended driver OR the kEpub Output plugin.

Yes, think I maybe had the plugins configured wrong.
Seems ok on standard epubs ** ** so far |

This is definitely something to do with calibre.
I converted all the files back to default epubs and the problem went away, however I was unable to manage my shelves properly and when I eventually got them working and synced the metadata back to the device all me epubs became kepubs and the problem is back second load of book and it freezes. The only solution I can think of is to manage collections only on my reader and not in calibre. |

@neil74: I suspect you still have a configuration problem, but I can't tell from here. I need a debug log to see. If you follow the instructions in https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...00#post2642100 to make one, I can have a look at it.

Thanks
I just did that and no problems! Sods law. I think the issue may be with the shelves/collections management as I set up a new calibre library last night without all of that setup. So far the kepubs sent have not caused an issue. If this pans out then I guess I’ll forgo the collections management side. |

Hello guys (and girls),
I am brand new to these forums as I am a very recent owner of my first e-reader, a Kobo Aura HD. I am experiencing the same problem as the TS. Navigating from an ebook to the home screen and then back again to the ebook, causes a freeze and a message of the bottom of the screen saying something like "page x is loading ...". I am also using the KoboTouchExtended-plugin. I have made a debug log as proposed above. I would like some help as I do want to keep on using the Kepub-format (love those statistics!) and my own shelves. Spoiler:

I deleted the book and readed it, and it appears fine now. |

The problem you describe sounds like the same as the OP. And as I replied it sounds like a known bug in 2.8.1 with kepubs that use embedded fonts. But, the times I have seen this, I was able to get the text displayed by bring up the menu and then dismissing it. It probably means there is something in the book that makes it not respond. A difference I can think of is adding "FullBookPageNumbers=true" to the config file. Maybe this is causing a hang when calculating the page numbers. If what you are seeing is related to the embedded font bug, then there is something you can try. My Kobo Utilities plugin has a way to change the font to be used for a book. Use this to set the font to something other than "Document default". If that doesn't allow the books to be opened, then it is a different problem than what I thought. |

I have mine working now via ADE and just normal epubs so I am loathe to mess around any further!
I have for now given up on kepubs. |

I had the same problem the other day with my Kobo Glo. I sent two books to the Glo and they both caused the Kobo to freeze. One wouldn't load and said Loading page....
I restarted but no luck. The other let me read the first chapter and then the same thing. The only solution (by my husband) was to delete the books and reload. They worked fine after that. I also have version 8 and the Kobo extended plug-in, but I'm not sure what version that is, although I did update it the other day ![]() |

My issue was that without fail ANY book I tried opened the first time and froze the 2nd. Regular as clockwork.
