Finally got mine. It was supposed to be here yesterday, but UPS took it on a little ramble first. I was quite worried that it wouldn't be too good, after reading the comments here. I too did the send back trials last year and finally kept the least irritating one of the three I tried, though it was quite blotchy. I eventually stopped reading on it because like Xendula I got tired of pink and green. Loved the software, just not the abstract painting every night. Well this new one is lovely, just lovely. Not a blotch or blemish that I can see. Even light on high and on low. No color. With the high light setting, a nice ivory color, which I much prefer to the cool white. Also I checked and I don't see any pinholes. I don't have head lights either (which was another problem last time round), not even faintly. Oh the delight of not having to return it. I am happy. I did try to love it last year and just couldn't in the end. Xendula, I do see color faintly in your photos of the new one. I just want you to know, there are ones out there without the color casts. I do hope you get one. Last edited by Carmelreader; 10-02-2013 at 11:48 PM. |

I am not sure if my monitor is making things stand out more - but that looks fairly pronounced to me - no doubt worse than my PW1 screen. The green and pink are very noticeable. I am not sure it really matters - I have a 'far from perfect' PW1 screen and I never bothered with returning it, nor does it affect my reading experience - but that is far from uniform.

My replacement will be here on Saturday. I remember from last year that pinholes were not as prevalent as the color blobs, so I am very hopeful.

I don't have my PW2 since it's being sent back, but what I had to do to get it to work when I used it yesterday was the top left area there's a drop down box that you have to select All Text or something like that to get it to show how many files are being indexed. Try all the options until it shows up. I think there's only 3 choices.

Did anyone notice that the outer casing (front) of the new PW is much less finger-print prone? As I recall, last year's model got very smudgy, resulting in the purchase of a skin to cover it. This year's model seems much improved, I touched it all over and no prints or smudges! I'll compare again when I remove the skin from the original.

Got mine yesterday. So far I like it. But if you want to be really picky, I do notice a faint thin bluish line at the top margin of the bezel. I don't like how slick the back is, making it difficult to hold. Also, accidental page turns are a pain in the butt. I don't like covers, but maybe a skin will improve handling. Here's a quick iPhone shot of the screen. It's much whiter than the picture shows. https://www.dropbox.com/s/1p3pudikcz...2005.52.56.jpg Last edited by baggyrinkle; 10-03-2013 at 07:11 AM. If you've not previously used a touch-screen Kindle, it takes a day or two to discover how to hold it comfortably without doing accidental page turns. There's no reason to suppose that the PW2 is any more prone to them than the previous touch-screen devices; the touch-screen technology is the same as that of the previous PW.

I did that on the first night. When in complete darkness, they are more bothersome than in ambient lighting with the light turned up higher.

Yep, when I first read that USE_ALT_FONTS no longer works, I said to myself: Blossom has left the building.

Has anyone noticed there are 2 different brightness levels? Using the scroll bar is 1 but when you push the MAX button there is a little extra Zap of light.

But, the page looks like it is tilted to the right, is it the picture?
