The last several books I've purchased in print I've also had to get the ebook version, just so I could read it. One book I'm struggling through (on comparative fairy tales) is 400 pages of maybe 7-pt type on paper so thin that you can see the text from the other side of the page as you're reading - and that one isn't available in eformat.

I read The Lord of the Rings first time like that, in Dutch. The book was recommended to me by a friend, and this version was the cheapest hardcover version the bookstore could order. It was as small as a normal paperback, and only 850 pages or so for all three books including appendices (my later English hardcover version was 1402 pages), and it reads like a freakin' bible. With some effort you could probably read page 100 through page 98/99 if you wanted to, and the fontsize would be comparable to somehting like Baskerville Size 2, maybe even 1, on the Kindle. Can't check it though; I gave away all of my Dutch books when I shifted everything over to English and did a complete re-read. Last edited by Katsunami; 09-26-2013 at 11:52 AM. |

I read a lot of technical books, and for this reason I bought a Boox M92.
I have also read them on a kindle 3 keyboard but with kindlepdfviewer so I can have a custom zoom (not predefined like the kindle pdf reader software). I always carry it with me (M92 or k3), and read when I have to go somewhere. It would be uncomfortable to carry books (since some pdfs have about 1000 pages) and not just one, but a few of them since I switch them depending on my mood. Since I read for the information (would be nice to actually remember everything I read) I prefer an e-reader (Sony 13.3 inch would be awesome), but I also like the idea of not chopping down trees just to read a book. We have evolved with the technology; let's not forget this. I also know there are people that like to hold a book in their hands since it would make reading more pleasurable, but if we can save some trees why not do it ? Also if the text is too small I can always increase it or zoom on the page and this becomes important when you are reading for x hours and your eyes become tired. |

I have reading glasses, and I like them, but I still like being able to make the font what I want and the size I like. And I hate having to hold a book open with my hand now. I'm spoiled and I can't go back.

I have also been doing this of late, but mainly because I've been buying more second hand books online and in charity shops. I kinda miss the feel of a real book in the hand, so I've been mixing it up a little. I just finished a book on my Kobo, and have now started reading one by the same author in the hand, i.e a physical book

But back to our regular feature: Can't help but think Ninjalawyer missed out not using the September 50% off code on Kobo. During the last few days, I couldn't find a book on the Kobo site on which the code failed to work. And there's another 50% off code that will work until October 15, correct? |

Personally, I just can't shift back to paper. Digital is just easier to read. I hate the gutters on thick paperbacks, the tiny print, and only having one book at a time.

I have been reading more paper books recently because I have been using the library more and the ebook collection is mostly YA paranormal romance which is not my choice of genre.

I don't know about the rest of you, but it wasn't easy for me to shift back into a physical book. Shape-shifting can be hard, and I didn't enjoy being a book in the first place! I felt horribly exposed back in the days when I was still perfect-bound and people were reading me.
I felt soiled inside when strangers would leaf through my difficult passages. But then I became a human being and that, too, was irritating. It took years of discipline (as it were) and virtuoso telekinetic typing skills to alter my shape again until I could become the post you're reading now. Was this post relevant to your consumer needs? If so, a physical copy may be ordered from Antathon.com as a perfect-bound single-paged book (click here!). The special Oktoberfest edition is also available in artisanal barrel-aged handcrafted orange fizz. It's signed by the author in mid-transformation and also includes a making-of-the-single-page-post DVD which should not be viewed by children under the age of 87. Must say I'm considering it
Now that I have tens of books on my Kindle, I'm unhappy that I don't have them on my library shelves. Especially the Pratchett ones.

I still read both. I do like the anonymity that an ereader gives you. This means that you can read fantasy/sci-fi without people judging you. This is the reason why I don't use the screen save hack. I also like having books on the shelves in my room, which is why I read/use both.
