Seems like there is a good chance its a true reflection, as its been noted that the screen on the new Aura is darker than the admittedly excellent screen on the Aura HD (theebookreader.com - Aura v Aura HD).

I have been really tempted by the smaller size and weight of the Aura and have been leaning towards getting it instead of the PW2. But because of the screen issues as mentioned in the above link, I'm now eagerly awaiting feedback on the PW. The slightly darker screen might not really matter (though I'll be comparing whatever one I end up buying with my Kindle Keyboard and if it's not better it's going back!), but the other issues are a bit of a shame, as the Aura looks like an excellent little reader.

2. You insert the text: [ youtube ]Zol9lvCsONs[ /youtube ] in your post (without the spaces). Only insert the video ID between the "youtube" tags, not the complete URL!

Hi guys,

I shot some pictures of the video by Len Edgerly from the screen of my laptop, slightly inclined. Being a crappy TN screen, its viewing angle is really bad, but it gave the possibility to highlight discolorations on both the PW screens.

Len's PW 2012 looks very similar to my crappy PW 2012, with two pink corners at the top, a dark green blotch in the middle and a grid of lights and shadows at the bottom.

The new PW 2013 looks better, but not even and uniform as I hoped.

BTW, I can't notice those flaws in the CNET video, even with the screen inclined, so I expect to have few good PW 2013’s and many failed ones on the market, just like for PW 2012.... I am really disappointed

(P.S. the pictures are not very good because I took them with my mobile, but you can try to watch the video with your TN screen inclined too and see how it looks live)

Such comparisons are of no use. It's like determining the image quality of a TV while watching a video of it, shot by a mobile phone, on another TV. It can't be done.

If you want to truly compare the KPW1 against the KPW2, and you have the former, your best option is to not sell it until you have received the latter and are satisfied with it.

You're right, in fact I just highlighted the non uniform lighting of the screens and I added a picture taken staying right in front of the screen, for comparison sake.

Anyway, believe me, the images of the KW 2012 in the pictures look very similar (even if darker in color, of course) to my PW 2012 nightime, showing, imho, that's a reliable proof.

P.S. I returned 3 PW's and, in the end, I kept this 4th

My take a major difference in KPW1 vs KPW2.. otherwise why would Amazon release a new model without major improvements..? the first was a failure..they knew it and so they fixed it.. Jeff Bezos does not make the same mistake twice..

Errm... There's also been an update to the "basic" Kindle (K4) last year... So I suppose that both the first version of the K4 and of the Paperwhite were failures, according to your logic. I'm sure that you can provide numbers to prove your point, so don't hesitate.

Guys, can anyone verify if the trick (not a hack) that allows to install user fonts on PW1 (add empty USE_ALT_FONT folder) works on PW2?

Several members on Mobileread have already reported that this loophole has been closed on the Paperwhite 2013.

I personally suspect that it will be closed as well, on the PW 2012, as soon as Amazon starts backporting features from the PW 2013.
