Some drool worthy lists this week! I bought two... couldn't resist those Kobo codes (and the Kobo I stole from my hubby to actually read on, haha!). Two books that were high on my want list...

1) Thoughtless - I can not get into this one! And I love my rock stars!
2) Just the Sexiest Man Alive - I've just started and already would recommend, my first Julie James and loving her writing style!

Adding all to my list to check out.

Just a heads up for those not following the Goodreads debacle. There are some who didn't leave that have decided to go crazy with 1 stars reviews on any books they can find. I read that 1 user in a two day period left 400 1 star reviews. It seems people are upset about the changes at Goodreads and while some have just deleted their account and left others have gone a drastic measure to screw up the site.

Oh do not stop! The first book is tough but the by the third you will think it's once of best trilogy you have read this year.

I love Kellen Kyle though I didn't like him in the book one by book three he remains one of my favorite heroes of all time.

I cried my eyes out when I finished the third book because I didn't want to say goodbye. I love it that much!

Julie James first two books just didn't work for me. But I have a friend who insisted I give her another try and gifted me one of her FBI/US Attorney books which I loved. I promptly purchased all the others (before agency pricing ended ). I would recommend all four of those.

I know he gets so many good book-boyfriend reviews, but mostly it's the writing at this point that is killing it for me - I'm finding it quite dry and so very very detailed. But I will push through!

And wow - another goodreads debacle... I am so out of the loop! Ugh. I miss card catalogs sometimes, no drama with those! lol

See, this is why I try not to get involved in blogs, etc, it just makes me so sad the way a few people can ruin something other people enjoy. BTW, what exactly is happening that you call 'Goodreads debacle', because other than using it to keep track of my books and authors, I really don't know anything else.

Oh and NIXLAPI, Like Blossom said, Thoughtless takes awhile to get into. And believe me, you will get SOOOO frustrated, especially in this first book, but the story and characters DO blossom and grow. There were a few times I was so frustrated with her that I had to take a break for a bit. But seriously, IIRC you like your rockstars too, and this is one of the few I have read more than once, and will re-read again. For me it's tied right up there with Mighty Storm, ah, maybe even more, I don't know, I just loved it. We all like different things, but I think you might want to give this one a few more pages.. JMHO

But I understand, and I think your frame of mind has to do with books too. I know I didn't like 'Beautiful Disaster' either, but I've seen so many people who loved it so much, that I have decided at some point to give it another try. Sometimes what clicks for so many just doesn't for a few, that's human nature.

I think what impressed me so much with the Kellen Kyle series is how much Character development there is. How can I start a book reading about a couple who I hate and by the second book fall in love them and by the third think it's once of the best love stories I've ever read even when the beginning of their relationship goes against all my moral codes. It's just brilliant how the author pulls this off.

Oh wow I will give the gist of the Goodreads Debacle. On the 21st Goodreads announced new Guidelines for Reviews and Shelf behavior. They deleted 21 users shelves and reviews. It blew up in their face and a mass exodus happened. Alot of mean trolls left which was one good thing that happen. They went over to Booklikes and Librarything but alot of good people left too. Goodreads has tried to fix the mess by apologizing saying they would no longer delete without prior notice and it seems the STGR Blog is using this as opportunity to get their agenda accomplished by reporting all the reviewers they consider mean.

As for the new guidelines you can no longer talk about an author on your review it must be about the book. And yet everyone gets upset over this?!? Your shelves must not be about an author's behavior or anything nasty. Now the shelves rule was much needed. There is whole thread in our News forum if you want to know. Just know that Goodreads is going through some huge growing pains as the moment so if you start to see some people angry and leaving 1 star reviews take it with a grain of salt.

Goodreads users are calling it censorship but I call it moderating a site.

Harlequin is done with their website redesign. You may need to change old bookmarks as I kept getting a page saying they were down for maintenance (I had the digital books site on my favorites bar).

They've changed the layout a bit. Print and digital books both show (if one is unavailable it simply says so). You can still click on the series/mini-series name to see all the books and they also now have a "See more connected books" link below the description.

Not sure how the cart will work if you add both digital and print books. I may have to try just to see what it does

ETA: Nevermind, just got an email from Harlequin which states
Quote:
While you can search for and browse books of all available formats, you cannot purchase print books and ebooks in the same transaction

Miracle Interrupted by Edie Ramer for $0.99

This is a box set of a novella and the first two longer romances in a series. I read the 4th book (out of order ) and have the fifth on my TBR, so I was happy to pick this set up. I've read several of her books and enjoyed them. They are good for a pleasant afternoon read. Nothing too heavy, but enough emotion to keep it interesting.

On sale this week for $0.99, Storm Force by Susannah Sandlin

I've read this and definitely recommend it. Paranormal romantic suspense, with a human former Army Ranger hero who works in a special unit with colleagues who have paranormal abilities.

So far disliking the new Harlequin site. When going to most categories you're presented with a full page of books that are coming soon and so you can't buy, having to go to the second page of books to see the current new releases is poor design. The old way (tabs by month) were better IMO. Might feel differently if the New Releases link actually showed the months new releases, but all that shows me are the new releases in one category (American Romance).

I agree I liked the new and future months tabs better.

For new releases, you have to click on the line you want in the list that appears in the right column.

It took me a while to figure it out this morning. I have a coupon that expires today, but can't come up with enough books I want in print (trying to buy mainly digital nowadays). Think I will just wait and hop I can get the three books I want later.

Louisiana Longshot by Jana DeLeon is just 0.99 this week at Amazon, Kobo and BN. Normally it is 4.99 ( or maybe 5.99). The link is to Kobo, since I just bought it there.

Quote:
CIA assassin Fortune Redding is about to undertake her most difficult mission ever—in Sinful, Louisiana.

With a leak at the CIA and a price placed on her head by one of the world's largest arms dealers, Fortune has to go off-grid, but she never expected to be this far out of her element. Posing as a former beauty queen turned librarian in a small bayou town seems worse than death to Fortune, but she's determined to fly below the radar until her boss finds the leak and puts the arms dealer out of play.

Unfortunately, she hasn't even unpacked a suitcase before her newly inherited dog digs up a human bone in her backyard. Thrust into the middle of a bayou murder mystery, Fortune teams up with a couple of seemingly sweet old ladies whose looks completely belie their hold on the little town. To top things off, the handsome local deputy is asking her too many questions. If she's not careful, this investigation might blow her cover and get her killed.

Armed with her considerable skills and a group of elderly ladies the locals dub The Geritol Mafia, Fortune has no choice but to solve the murder before it's too late.
