Just finished Threat Vector by Tom Clancy. A good read; not as good as his earlier novels but hard to put down nonetheless

It's not by Tom Clancy - it was written by a guy called Mark Greaney. It just has Tom Clancy's name in big letters on the cover.

Correct. Although I came across several sections that seemed to really have Clancy's style from back in the Hunt For Red October Days. I'm guessing that he edited Greaney's draft at least to some extent.

Finished "The Blade Itself" by Joe Abercrombie and enjoyed it. Onto the next one in the trilogy, "Before They Are Hanged".

FYI, the entire trilogy is still just $9.99 at Amazon US.

Excellent!!!
And now for a completely different view of Edinburgh, The Uncommon Appeal of Clouds, the latest Isabel Dalhousie book by Alexander McCall Smith, bought with a Kobo coupon.

That's the exact same price I paid at Kobo after using a 50% discount coupon. (Had to make a brief US 'visit' though)

I'd be surprised if Clancy touched it at all, or has even read it. They just use his name to sell books, and he gets royalties.

Before I started The Human DIvision I read Precious and the Monkeys by Alexander McCall Smith. This is a children's story about Precious Ramotzwe, of the No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency.

Unfortunately, I really hated the tone taken, and found it irritatingly patronising, rather than humorously avuncular. Kipling's Just So Stories has a tone that works. It felt like this was trying for a similar tone, but for me it failed completely.

The Human Division by John Scalzi
A novel as a collection of episodes. It worked well for me, each episode a complete story, but together making a novel.

Next up: The Sagan Diary by John Scalzi.

I just finished Detroit: An American Autopsy. Very enjoyable. I always thought my acquaintances from Detroit were messing with me, but it really is as messed up as they say. A great read.

This Isabel Dalhousie is delightful. A perfect break from Rebus. If you haven't read any of this series from Alexander McCall Smith, and you like cozies, I recommend them.

I think I might have read this before. Perhaps it was available online at some point. Anyway, an interesting short story that's essentially a stream of consciousness from the Jane Sagan character.

I've bought so many wonderful books over the past couple of weeks that my previous TBR pile isn't going to get a look in for a while.

Next: The Saturday Big Tent Wedding, the 12th in the No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency series by Alexander McCall Smith, first published March 2011. Thanks to a Kobo coupon, just $2.99!

I just finished Rising Tides by Taylor Anderson. This is the fifth book in the Destroyermen Series. I read the first one a few months ago and it was good but not great. When I finally tried book two it was much better. And I have been pleasantly surprised that they have gotten better with each book. There are three left in the series and I hope this trend continues.

Just finished The Daughter of Time by Josephine Tey. A very interesting modern mystery about Richard III.
